Retail WOW starts download but doesn't complete

I’ve copied and pasted on what all that has transpired:
Charles
I have tried everything in the forums to get WOW downloaded. I’ve contacted my ISP provider and there are no blocks against Blizzard or any of it’s affiliates. I’ve completely uninstalled and have manually deleted all files to include all the appdata and local data and can install every other Blizzard game and update them and play. I then go to install WOW and it will start the download and then get stuck on the download almost every time at 364.21MB and then it never finishes the download. And about 5 minutes into the initializing it says “woops, something went wrong, try restarting Bnet or your computer” so I do that and come back to start the install and then it does nothing but sit there at the 364.21MB and never finishes. It is something on your end that is keeping this from downloading cause every other game that I download from BNET finishes, just not WOW.

Hello, Charles!
Thank you for reaching out to Blizzard Entertainment! I’m Game Master Chraendan, and I’m here to help with the crashing issue you’ve been experiencing in World of Warcraft.

I completely understand how frustrating it must be to deal with these issues when trying to install the game, especially after you’ve already put in so much effort to troubleshoot on your own. I’m really sorry for the inconvenience this has caused, and I’m happy to assist you in resolving it.

I’ve done some research on your issue and found several troubleshooting steps that may help. Before we dive into these, I recommend searching for your specific error message (if you have one) or the problem description in our support articles. There may be an article or news update directly related to that specific error code, which could have a more tailored solution for you.

Here are a few general troubleshooting steps to try:

  1. Restart your computer before doing any other troubleshooting. This can resolve many program conflicts and other temporary issues
  2. Optimize your internet connection. Your current setup may not be viable for our game.
  3. Configure your security software to allow our game to be played
  4. Uninstall and reinstall your Battle.net App
  5. If all of the above fails, try updating or creating a new Windows account to resolve permission issues with your operating system (Windows 10 and 11 only)

If you’ve tried all of these steps and are still having trouble, you might want to reach out to the Blizzard Tech Support Forums or other gaming communities for additional help. Local computer technicians can also assist if the issue seems to be related to hardware.

You can also check this support article for more specific troubleshooting steps:

I completely understand how much this is affecting your gameplay, and I really appreciate your patience. I hope one of these solutions helps resolve the problem, but if you need further assistance, feel free to reach out again. We’re here to help!

Take care,
GM Chraendan

I have tried all of your above steps. The fact of the matter is this, I am able to download all of my other BNET games: Diablo 2, Diablo 3, Diablo 4, Heroes of the Storm and Starcraft, yet it starts the download of WOW and stops at different download sizes all within the 300-400MB range. So it starts the download but gets stuck there. If it were a security issue or hardware issue then it wouldn’t even allow me to either select the game and start the download due to hardware or security issues. So with that being said, it is nothing on my end that is holding up the download, cause it starts, it just never finishes. Just so you have this on here, I have uninstalled and wiped my drives of the games and have manually uninstalled and manually deleted all folders to include using the hidden files to erase that data as well. Is there someway that I can create another BNET account and have my characters switched to it once I create it if we aren’t able to get the download to complete? My subscription was just paid and I am unable to play the game. I will try one more time to manually delete everything and see about getting it to download. If it is unsuccessful, I’ll update the ticket after that.

Alright so I’ve completely uninstalled and manually uninstalled and wiped drives again and WOW still get’s stuck during the download between the 300-400MB range. I’ve downloaded Heroes of the Storm, Diablo 2 and Starcraft with no problems. So, it is nothing on my end that is holding up the download. It has to be something on Blizzards end, cause there is no explanation that if everything downloads just fine, why is it WOW is the only one that will not download?

Hey there Charles, thank you for reaching out the Blizzard Support Team about your issue when trying to install WoW, this is Game Master Eldosnal

I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for continuing to be a part of the WoW community. You’ve been here with us since 2005, what an incredible run! Your dedication and passion for the game over the years is truly inspiring, and it’s players like you that make our Warcraft games the special place it is and I’m sorry that you are dealing with this situation!

I know it can be a bit of a bummer not being able to play WoW yet, As a personal suggestion, during my investigation I found this workaround you can try: On the battle.net app go to the top left corner, press on the battle.net logo, navigate to the settings and click BETA, here you will have the options to switch from BETA to the standard version and viseversa, after switching to beta (close the app and open it up if necessary), try again to download WoW. If you are still unable to download the game , it will be necessary that you report it. Customer Support can’t fix this Tech related issues and since you mentioned that you have tried every Troubleshooting step from us, your best bet would be reporting this into the Tech support forums through the next link: (Wouldn’t accept the Link)

Charles if you have any additional question, I’ll be here for you, I hope you have a great rest of your Thursday and I wish you a Merry Christmas!

Best Wishes,
Game Master Eldosnal

I have tried what you have asked but to no avail. Download will start and then stop between 300-400MB’s and never continues the download. I didn’t see in the Technical Support section on where I’m supposed to open a ticket, or am I just supposed to respond in one of the topics of discussion? In that case, what kind of time frame after I do comment in a topic am I supposed to get a email from Technical Support about the issue?

How much space is free on the drive?

857GB is what remains on the drive after Diablo 2, Diablo3, Starcraft and Heroes of the Storm were redownloaded.
