So earlier this week i started playing classic on the side after i did my daily’s in retail, and Ive been having a lot of fun! Not knowing much of Classic, im having some trouble picking a main. Ive narrowed it down to Warlock, Hunter, and Rogue. Im not worried on the leveling experience to much, as i wanna try to get a full feel for what the game has to offer on my 1-60 adventure seeing how ive only started playing wow come Dragonflight. Id love a class that can farm gold decently, via either professions or farming, im playing on a pvp server, so a class that could hold its own in at least a 1v1/1v2 situation. I play DH in retail, and only played hunter before it, so im up to trying something new as well. I dont think ill feel comfortable enough to tank or heal, thats why im not so interested in warriors, druids, priests, or shamans. Ive played all 3 in classic, and love the different play styles of each, except for how hunters have to be ooc to use traps, and the deadzone i feel like is a huge disadvantage in pvp, as thats something im not used too. i dont mind high skill ceilings, do to the amount of time ill be putting into the class, it should come naturally over time anyway. If anyone has any other imputs, or even just tips alone for a new classic player, please feel free to post below. thank you.
Some of these die-hard vanilla Andys claim that retail began the moment we stepped through the dark portal which I partly agree on.
You’re not wrong in expecting casualness out of TBC.
Can’t advise you on what class to play; too biased for the shaman.
oh yeah
I was going to suggest rogue but didn’t want to violate some weird retail/classic truce, apparently there are rituals you have to observe or something
well if TBC is your thing definitely don’t do rogue they get no respect in TBC. none at all
I see your retailer TBC bet and I raise you one expansion…
Retail began originally at level 60 vanilla; the moment the devs decided to focus content development for max level.
Which is why we went to outland.
im unsure if tbc is my thing, as ive never played it ^^
If you want to stick to a dps class i would suggest mage (for farming) or warlock because theyre OP in pvp in tbc just dot up and kill
you are in a great position then don’t
Tbc is fun. Era is dead right now
I’m playing era right now and it’s fantastic just pick whitemane for pvp and mankrik for pve.
how does mage stack up in wpvp/raiding, because im enjoying the leveling experience im having a lot, so im not worried on that, and once im 60, i think thats all im going to do
Editing to say, i know what i want out of a class, i just dont know out of the 3, one one will give me what i want, without wasting my time put into it.
Hunter in classic is quite different to hunter in retail. Some of the differences are frustrating but many are really fun. Vanilla hunter is a great soloist. TBC hunter is top tier dps. There is a fair bit of micro-management, same with warlock. Mage is fairly straight forward and gets a few perks in the form of free water and teleports/portals. I would avoid hybrid classes until you are more familiar with classic.
Note: if you are playing on an ERA server, it won’t progress to TBC. You need to be on one of the Fresh servers, eg Dreamscythe and Nightslayer. You can also play on Doomhowl (hardcore) and transfer to Dreamscythe for free when it progresses.
im currently playing on horde nightslayer ^^ but thank you for that.
yeah im avoiding all hybrid classes, and warrior is the only one to really peak my interest.
ive been looking at Warcraft logs from classic-cata just to get a idea on pve balancing, but dont know how much i should use those to influence my pick
IMO, make a couple characters and try them out.
Also if you find you want more Vanilla after anniversary then come play on Whitemane Era, its super fun.
ive played all 3 already, with hunter being my highest, followed by rogue and wl being the same, as i keep hopping between them.
trying to find the best jack of trades for what i want form the 3 mentioned classes.
Depends a ton on what game version you want to play, TBC is similar but very different. Its odd to think with more talents and skills that the classes you picked would ironically have fewer play build options in TBC, but this is how it worked out.
You know what, I think your comment here helped me choose my answer!
Posting on my hunter cause idk how to switch on my phone
Are you trying to use ‘vanilla Andy’ as some kind of insult? They’re the only reason Classic was even made. And the #nochanges policy has been proven to be the correct one. The more the Classic team has veered from that philosophy, the less successful and popular Classic has become.
Just a demographical label based on how I view the demographics.
You can call me a Wrath Andy if you like but “Wrath Babies” has already been reserved for us.
Labeled by the so Vanilla Andys as a means of disdain for us; referring to us as babies under the assumption that we first started playing WoW in Wrath.
I’d much rather be called a Wrath Andy than a Wrath Baby.
And I’m grateful to them for that. Vanilla is better than no WoW at all, but they overstepped their place when they backed B-Ham in his campaign to remove RDF from Wrath for good. Suddenly, #nochanges flew out the window soon as it suited them.
And LFR right now?
I didn’t defend LFR the way I defended RDF simply because I didn’t want to play Cata.
That’s not very championy of me either.
