I recently read on the burning crusade classic forums that Blizzard is planning to increase the nameplate distance cap to 40 yards up from 20 yards. Here currently in retail we are stuck at 60 yards for our nameplates and are unable to lower it.
If they’re going to make that change in classic. Can they please carry that change into retail to allow us to actually lower our nameplate distance below 60 yards? I’m sure a lot of players are currently not happy being stuck at 60 yard nameplate range mainly because a lot of our abilities that deal damage are actually capped at 40 yards.
I once had my nameplate distance range set to 30 yards in retail and I liked it that way. It actually helped me calculate how close I could get to hostile monsters without pulling them. I also had way less nameplate clutter on my screen.
In my opinion this change would benefit the game greatly.
Please give us back our option to lower it!

We should have a slider in our interface panel. My characters shouldn’t be targeting things that are out of range.

Yeah, Blizzard broke this at some point, and it really bugs me. It used to be (in WoD?) that I could set my enemy nameplate distance to the maximum range for my spells/attacks, and it kept me from tab targeting things that were out of range. I’d like to be able to do that again.

This feature has been hard locked to 60 yards ever since patch 8.2.5.

Hope so. Some of the older timewalk dungeons are painful with the slider locked at 60. You enter and see nothing but bars everywhere.
I don’t want to turn off enemy bars to resolve screen clutter.

Well it looks like the nameplate distance change is now in effect for classic.
Please don’t leave retail nameplate distance hanging like this, Blizzard…
Or the other issue that drives me NUTS in retail (since Legion, I think?) … is that WoW now has “trivial” mobs that have less health, less armor, etc. It used to be these mobs didn’t have a nameplate.
Now, what SHOULD be a trivial mob, has all the armor, health, damage, etc of a “normal” mob… but it still doesn’t have a nameplate.
If it’s a “real” mob, give it a REAL nameplate.
And we have the option to “stack” or “overlap” nameplates. If they’re overlapped… you can’t find the one that’s casting the big-bad spell, etc. So you should always choose “stack.”
EXCEPT THEY DON’T STACK!!11111
Seriously, wtf is so hard about how nameplates work in this game???
Anyone who comes across this post please share this around and like or something.
We need to get the word out about this massive issue that has been plaguing the game ever since 8.2.5. Start sending in game suggestions or bug reports to try get their attention on this.
It is completely unacceptable to let burning crusade classic have the better nameplate distance all to themselves.
Stop sleeping on this issue, Blizzard!

Bumping up for attention because this issue is still not resolved yet. Anyone else who comes across this post please bump it up too if you agree.

I would rather they increase it from 100 to something utterly ridiculous. But I am also a tank and when I am about to go into combat my camera pans down so I can see only the enemies I need to see.
Another month. Another bump up. Not much more I can add.
Support bump. Nameplate clutter and overlapping makes the game very awkward to play.

1 month later. Another bump up.
I second this. I remember hanging around Boralus in BFA, and seeing fish’s nameplates through the floor of the docks, and being triggered by it.
I don’t know why they got rid of the variable.

Another monthly bump up. This is just an easy win waiting to be claimed for this upcoming patch.

Just do it and win back some of our support.

Even worse is when you use custom addon nameplates (which most of us do) you see the default small wow plates from 40-60, then soon as you hit 40 your custom plates pop in and out lol. I could have sworn it was not always like this, but it has been for a while now.
