Retail Frost Mage Talent build ruined by set pieces

I hate the glacial spike spell.

I have to reroll my character now because the stupid frost mage set from the catalyst revolves around a spell I hate.

The entire skill tree options set is ruined by one gear set bottleneck at the catalyst.

Dragonflight is just another time I regret coming back to this game.

tier sets should add some form of power to the character in the form of a bonus etc instead of revolving builds around the set pieces. as it currently stands all the builds for a character revolve around what ever blizz decides on , it should be we can build however we want and then the tier adds some extra oomph instead of forcing us to take certain things

like take enh shaman set for S2 i think it was, revolved around using sunder and yet here we are now not even having sunder in 99% of the builds.

if they keep making tier revolve around certain builds then they might as well just remove the new talent system and bring the old 3 choice per 5 lvl talent system that was brought in during MOP. next thing you know tier sets gonna make us choose a certain hero spec each season as the tier set changes

That spell is amazing!

Illusion of choice, here are 45 talents, but if you want to use the best gear here are 6 talents you must take, built into a talent tree that forces you to take 8 other talents just to get them. And it’s not like it’s a couple of % difference, it’s a big chunk of your damage.

It’s always been an issue, the dev team want you to play how they want you to play, balancing everything is already a nightmare, can you imagine trying to balance all the capstone talents on all the specs?

I love glacial spike. Its the msot fun frost spec. Tier should switch up which talents are best for a given season it keeps thing interesting

I wouldn’t say always. Back in the day class sets were no problem because aside from one or two talents, everyone in a spec had the same abilities. They could come up with set bonuses that affected nearly any abilities and it wouldn’t force a player to deviate from the talent choices they wanted. Not so these days. Players wanted class sets back and they finally gave them to us at the end of shadowlands. Just in time for this new talent system that it’s just not compatible with.

This is simply untrue. There are many builds depending on how active or passive you want your playstyle and yes the dps is slightly off but one is super active and one sint. Also many of the talents dont even effect the same fights so acting like its some huge loss is weird. Some talents are soley aoe focused.

Also not every talent is about MAH RAID DPS. Some choices are for things like pvp or soloing world stuff or simply weird fun stuff

I feel the same way about the elemental shaman tier set bonus. It makes the fire build the only viable option for end game content, and I don’t enjoy the playstyle.

I’m primarily a healer, so I still main my shaman, but I’d really prefer more universal set bonuses that don’t force you into one specific build.

Same. I’m playing enhance because the fire build for elemental sucks so bad. I hate tier sets that dictate talent builds.

Casting Glacial Spike has a 40% chance to trigger Brain Freeze.

That’s not a game changer. Just play without it.

And if you build too many passives or miss out on the only spell that gets affected by your tier set, you lose a tone of damage. Say I’m wrong as many times as you like, if you don’t see the difference in a BiS setup for some random combination of spells that’s on you for not knowing how to play.

Imagine hating the best spell in the game.

The meatball spec where you get 9 million procs of lava burst?

I really enjoyed that in arena in S2

every good loot-based game is this way. ARPG’s have items that make it very beneficial to play one way over another, etc. You will be much happier if you just play the game the way your character is most effective. There are definitely times where the content creators have it wrong, and what is most effective for the content you do may be something different than what they suggest, but a tier set is different. Just do what it says.

Yep, that one. It’s fun when I watch someone else play it, but the playstyle/flow of that build is oddly stressful for me. I also lack mastery on my gear still since I don’t want/need any for resto, and resto is my main spec. Not enough time/resources yet to build a decent off-spec set.

I’ll keep trying because ideally I only want to play one character, but yeah, I’d much prefer a lightning build.

Tier sets swapping up which builds are powerful is FUN. sorry u like passive dmg on skills every build has but it is MUCH MORE interesting this way

Glacial Spike is my favorite part of Frost Mage.

I ran it even when it was a dps loss.

This is why I hate tier bonuses dictating talent builds. Make tier sets for top tier talents you have no choice but to take, since they’re core abilities, or make them generic passives.

Aww thats so sad lmao
