Retail feels so lifeless

I recently started a new character on retail and uninstalled after 2 days. I wanted to share my thoughts on the state of the game.

The War Within feels like a maintenance mode expansion. Even compared to DF which I thought was a pretty awful expansion had more passion behind the general gameplay. The current systems and events feel very dull. Just so much copy and paste from previous events. They don’t even try anymore with open world stuff. It’s just a joke.

I was kind of excited for harder timewalking dungeons but everyone still just zergs through, does not talk, and there is 0 brain required.

Questing in WoD zones, I didn’t see a soul. I had a guy looking for a guild signature. Told him I would help him out. He flew to me but I couldn’t see him and he couldn’t see me. Because I was in “Chromie Time” is this necessary? There is not enough people in these zones to justify segregating me to my own shard. in fact all this sharding makes the game look single player. Playing Anniversary servers or MoP the cities are packed, not just one. People are running around everywhere. And you’d probably see that a little more in retail if that would merge servers (what is even the point of servers anymore) and shut down this stupid sharding system. I get it in new zones. Lag sucks. But in old world content there should be 1 shard for pve and 1 for warmode.

I played with my toy collection in SW and just laughed because I have like 20 pages of crap. That I literally never use. And one thing I noticed half of the toys don’t even work lol.

20-30 min pvp queues while leveling. Ouch. Blizzard doesn’t really do anymore for leveling BGs and never really tried. This could be a really fun way to level but its just dead. I guess people are out collecting toys and different colored shirts they won’t see.

I was flying around and noticed like a flying blimp and stuff and lights shining on the top of the main stormwind gate and I just thought it looked stupid. They literally have turned this game into a carnival. It literally gives new meaning to the term “theme park” MMO.

I was on my new priest and I just notice the more I level the harder the game gets. I joined a group for several dungeons. Got a few upgrades, not much but gained about 5 levels. When the group disbanded I could barely quest in the open world anymore and it was because of my gear. The bags from random queues are nice but don’t give me enough gear to keep up with your terrible scaling system that just feels like it was made in excel and forever bugged and no one cares because these bugs have been active a long time. Scaling has never been right.

You kill SoD which felt like an MMORPG.
MoP is very heavy into retail mode and is full of bugs and feels like it’s run by a skeleton crew.
Retail feels heavily lost and designed by people who don’t even know the franchise.

And those newly designed cutscenes we started seeing in I think Shadowlands? That UC campaign ones come to mind. What happened to those? Too much for the budget? We rarely get them now and they are so short.

There is nothing epic about this game. And the next raid boss just feels like he was pulled out of a hat and don’t even get me started teaming with Xal. Like we are doing that storyline again?

Who writes this?

20 yrs of my life playing this off and on and the current Blizzard team is just milking a corpse at this point. The only reason Classic versions of the game feel alive is because there is like 5 servers. And they won’t even merge Faerlina and Benediction on MoP to give us a decent pvp server lmao. They want the transfer money.

This company man. Could do so much better by the community and reap more rewards for it because the game would grow but they just continue the minimal effort and we just mindlessly keep paying our sub because lets be real, the other MMORPGs are worse than this one.

Retail is just in seriously bad shape. IDK what could fix it. Just feels like a large lifeless forgotten world. Like so many old MMORPGs with no players, that’s what WoW is turning into.

And they just keep adding continents lmao. Like why not go back to Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor ? Does anyone care about these zones?

Feels about the same as BC felt to me. Leveling is kind of stupid now tho

So a few hours of play and this is your take about the entire expansion?

Okay.

Sorry but your opinion on an expansion after 2 days of playing means absolutely nothing.
Especially when most of it was spent leveling.

Obviously not, I played TWW on release and came back to try it again recently. Do you think what I talked about sounds like a few hours of gameplay?

I see the issue now, you think I was new to retail. Fixed. I just returned unfortunately.

Man, the literal 3? of a patch

No wonder nothing’s going on

The literal 3 indeed

Don’t know what this means.

An unpopular, decade old expansion is your barometer, really?

Yes with bonus regurgitated talking points added.

Like dandelions, these posts pop up every single time WoW’s in a lull waiting for a new season

YOU not liking WoW doesn’t mean WoW’s in a bad shape.

1 year ago every timewalking event would have people questing and leveling in older zones.

But whatever

:face_vomiting:
part of the problem

It is tho, did you see all the crap it go for the state of the cutscenes they are putting out? I’ll wait for your excuse.

Not much different than releasing a new raid, but on top of that there are resets to competitive aspects of play like mythic plus and arena

I somehow just didn’t write last weeks in there

Now it’s just the literal 3

You just gotta go to where the life is.

Life….finds a way

To be fair WoD is the best leveling expansion, as well as the fastest.

OP the issue is the game has evolved, you haven’t.
Leveling, questing and hanging out in the world isn’t the game anymore.

It’s moved to a more instanced world (to fit the modern market).
BG Blitz and Solo Shuffle although not perfect, are way better than random BGs and has made the PVP community feel more lively to me.

PVE is funneled into raiding, M+ and Delves. Yeah Delves is more of a solo experience but M+ is still thriving. There’s still thousands of groups being ran every hour.

If you want the old game, play the old game. It is literally there for a reason.

I’ll agree, the open world does feel soulless. Sharding is a burden to this game that they cant admit due to the technology behind it being “advanced”.

But your comment summarizing TWW as a filler is what confuses me, because you haven’t really engaged with any of the expansion.

WoW’s had plenty of bad cutscenes. That proves nothing.

Again, you not liking a thing doesn’t mean WoW’s in a bad place.

WoW went down a direction it can’t come back from, im not sure what they could do

It needs some sort of refresh or reset just do breath some life into this bloated repetitive loop

I would say TWW might be the most uninspired expansion with the least innovation though
