I recently had my external SSD crash due to a virus and was forced to reformat. Since reformatting, I’ve reinstalled Retail WoW on said drive and am now having “Error #9330274 - File I/O error” pop up every time I close the game. In response, the battle.net app has to scan game files for 30 minutes and then patch in order for me to play again.
Pls send help.
Hey there Gravydipped,
These “I/O” errors can occur due to a conflicting third-party program, a problem with the drive that the game or Battle.net Desktop App are installed on, or in rare cases a deeper problem with your Windows installation or hardware. If the Battle.net Desktop App isn’t installed to your primary C:\ drive, the App may run into permission-related problems resulting in errors. Please fully uninstall the App, and then install it fresh to the C:\ drive.
If this doesn’t apply, try re-installing the game to rule out the possibility of damaged or corrupted game files. If you continue to experience issues, many problems related to your installation of Windows can be resolved by creating a new administrator account, logging into it, and trying the game there.
If the game only works consistently on the new admin account, this could indicate damaged or missing Windows system files or an issue with how the old user account is configured. This is somewhat common, and the easiest fix is to move any user-specific files that you wish to keep from the old user account to the new admin account. You can also work with Microsoft’s Support to troubleshoot the problem with the old account if preferred.
I hope this helps! Let us know if you have any questions going forward.
