Huh… i made a post on this forums about this exact thing a week or two ago. That rather than having a Holystrike and Radiant build, we should have a hammer vs sword build. Why? Because our current two builds play exactly the same, making the Holystrike and Radiant damage distiction reduntant and more of a flavor thing. And secondly, because all of our “melee” abilities are sword themed and all range ones are Hammers. And yes, hammers vs swords are also just a redunant flavor thing, but i think it makes a bit more sense.
So Templar should be reworked to be about swords. Which would be very easy to do. Just swap the Empyrean Hammer animation with some sword model and rename Hammer of Light to Sword of Light. It doesn’t even need a new animation because it is just a big explosion.
Herald is also hammer themed (it has a minor HoW and DS focus) so it make sense Templar would be something else.
this definitely wont happen ever, ask for freedom on horse cast
i really dont see where and how this idea ever got popular. we shouldnt be combining two icon abilities for one
no, feels way better in beta with 40 attack speed. 0 downtime at all. only downtime if your bad which is well needed skill ceiling
actually based and cool idea
templars always used hammers in historical context and paladins are all about hammers. out of all the issues templar brings, i dont see how this one rose to prominence. very first world type issue but i dont mind more glyphs for asthetic reasons so w/e
Uhh historically the most popular weapons used by the “knights templar” during the crusades were one handed swords called a grete war sword and lances. Warhammers were widely used but warhammers in wow are nothing like real ones even slightly.
While it would be kind of redundant to have a passive that specify that because well… Duhh!
I feel like this could be a way of adding flavor even if it’s “pointless”.
I’ve argued against it in the past because every single class that can BRez has a cost attached to it, be it resources or a cast time.
Why would Paladin be the exception?
For some, the resource might be more easily spared but it is still instrumental to their gameplay.
Now with the removal of Ret aura (good thing btw), we’re still back at the point where Ret doesn’t bring anything different or better than Holy or Prot.
And where Holy still has an iron grip on the Mythic comp spot through it’s versatile and 40yd wide DR CD.
Maybe this instant free Brez could be the thing that sets Ret apart from our other specs.
Although I don’t see this as being sufficient to dislodge Holy from its spot.
Nice to finally have an agreement on something. I’ll take it!
These 2 ideas are the biggest hot takes. But if the first is to happen, it should only be because the second is removed.
Glad you liked it!
This is exactly the idea here. Bring back a form or ret specific utility, especially as compensation for losing Ret Aura, then also remove the current form of instrument of retribution. Wins all around
i wasnt incorrected, as stated in the past. i even brought up multiple historical sources. people again, link templar to swords because of modern media
its actually the bow and the morning star and the lance.
this is such a poor argument, if wow becomes more realistic then paladins wouldnt be summoning golden angel wings nor would warlocks be able to summon 10839817698128719782 demons.
The Knights Templar fought like any other knights, meaning they fought from horseback using whatever one handed weapon the individual preferred. Fighting from horseback requires a one handed weapon both because you need the other hand for yours reins and also because the footwork required to control a two handed weapon is impossible on horseback.
However, there were some sects of religious warriors that used exclusively maces because they felt it was unseemly to spill blood. These are the warriors that clerics and paladins in high fantasy are based on and the reason why priests never use blades and clerics/paladin typically use impact weapons. I want to say they were from the Holy Roman Empire, but I’m not entirely sure.
… maces particularly spilt more blood and more brutal then bladed weapons. Ever seen what blunt force trauma actually look like? Also i would love you to reference this religous cult your refering to.
You don’t slam a hammer in full force while building. You’ll bend the nail wrong or indent the wood your trying to use. So no because i don’t use a hammer with enough force to cause that level of blunt trauma. Also medevil weapons was made to make you bleed one way or another, war hammers tend to have spikes on the opposite sides of the hammer head and a spear tip. They where obviously made to cause bleeding. The hamner head is also small enough to focus the swing force in a small area, if use on plate armor (which is what they are used to counter) will cause bleeding upon penetration of said armor
So they shed blood. Thank you for assisting my point.
All religions is a cult. The term cult gotten a bad rep only due to media making it look like that way.
