Let me start out by saying this openly, I havent PvPed in about 7 or 8 years on my paladin but the “overwhelming community feedback” about ret in pvp was absurd and I guarantee just nonsenseical yacking from people who NEVER ONCE IN THEIR LIFE played a ret paladin in any content after wrath of the lich king ended. So im going to give both my thoughts and helpful feedback on dealing with ret pally.
First, my thoughts: Why is the community so hell bent on making ret palsfin players be as miserable as humanly possible in ANYTHING!?!?! The update went live and for the first time in about 9+ years ret was finally good at both pvp and pve but due to “overwhelming feedback” the healing a ret does in pvp got gutted by 75%. A side note, blizzard needs to seriously stop gutting large chunks of ability numbers and then months later going “Oh sorry! We didnt mean to gut you that badly, here is some of those numbers back! Smiley face.” The second part is a step by step guide to beating ret in PvP so here ya go!
-dispel freedom
-run when we pop bubble, every single class can out mobility us
-pop a defensive and kite out wings (Again, every class and their mother can do this)
-Congradulations! You killed the ret pally!
I’ll just wait for them to buff Devastation in PvP.
Considering there are over 100 (up to 3.5k) ret paladins over 3k and only 12 (3.3k tops) Devastation Evokers in US RSS or for 3v3s, there are 9 ret paladins in the top 100 (three of which being #2, 3, and 5) and only one devastation evoker in the top 100…
They might have been a bit overboard, considering there are more ret paladins in the top 100 than any other melee (closest would be Windwalker with 8 in the top 100), statistically, they may have been a bit heavyhanded with making the rework ‘too’ good.
Full stop right here sport. We are talking about one of the hardest classes to play in all of pvp and what im hearing is because of the rework they should now lose their positions or be significantly harder to hold said position after months if not years of them clawing their way up to attain it which is…NO.
Im not sure how devastation works in pvp cause frankly dragon people bore me but one thing I get is that evoker is like balance druid, you get focused and you fall over which is why they likely dont excel in arena but likely do in rated bgs.
I’m saying that, all of the sudden, the best players in the world?
Ret is the easy way to get rating because you can look and see a lot of rets pushing 60~70% win rates all the way to Gladiator.
Ret, 9 in the top 100. Rogues (All specs), Warriors (All specs), Feral druids, and DKs (All specs) each have 6 in the top 100. It is suddenly the most represented spec at the highest end of PvP. If it was the hardest, why is it suddenly the one DPS spec with the highest representation above 3k RSS or in the top 100 of 3v3s?
Usually, if a spec was more difficult, there would be the fewest number of people at that rating, let alone with obscenely high win rates.
I think a post that puts it into perspective is this fellow who was nice enough to put all the data I’m looking at into fancy charts.
I suppose my main problem is that Devastation simply can’t deal with Ret anymore, since they can casually dispel my only real defensive ability with two charges with what, a 9 second CD? And if I want to dispel HoF, I need to use a talent with Flame Breath (part of my DPS burst) that has a 30 second CD.
My man, this graph depicts RECENT events. Im not talking about anything recently since this sharp uptick can basically be cast aside since it hasnt existed long enough for any real data to be put into clear perspective, what YOU and everyone else along with the devs are doing is pure reactionary, nothing more.
Y-yes? Because before the change we were the single most easily kiteable and trained class in existance? We had to pop 2 GCD’s just to get out of a root when 85% of classes could do that with 1
Recent. As in, skyrocketing win rates even after the initial nerf after the rework. That’s a look of saying, “Hey, the change went through. How well did it go? Well, their win rate went up by a massive margin and they now are the dominant class at the very top of the PvP ladder…”
That is a direct result of a recent change having a very massive swing in their ability, not “Long, hard-fought ret glads clawing their way to the top.” No, it’s “Got buffed a bit more than expected and people jumped on that for easier wins.” Recent data, all of the sudden, Paladins started winning a lot more and having a lot more games played and a lot more Paladins getting Gladiator all of the sudden. It’s proof that they might have buffed them a bit too much when the spike is that sudden.
I am an “Average” player in PvP but ret paladins that I could easily deal with before, I simply can’t now. Kite? Nah, doesn’t work. Burst them dead? Nah, not anymore. Out-sustain? Nope, can’t manage that anymore either. Pop CDs to survive their burst? Haa, doesn’t work, even the talent option to make Renewing Blaze “be better for healing burst damage” is a joke because it can still be dispelled and by taking it, it is now up less frequently than their burst window.
Well seeing as how ret was utter crap before the rework it makes sense. They rnt as strong as they were post rework but they’re better then before which was the point. Do you people just want every class you don’t play unplayable?. If you can’t kite a ret that’s on you, other then extra range on some abilities their mobility is a tad worse off then before. Unbound freedom is dispellable and the only root clear we have, range on your abilities don’t do much for you when people can hide behind pillars.
It got nerfed, but they still hold the most spots for a single spec in the top 100 ladder with the highest win-rate comp even post-nerf. And not every class has an offensive dispel available to deal with them. Can’t say “Bring a SPriest/Mage/Shaman to purge the Paladin” when Mages, SPriests, and DPS shamans don’t even exist at the highest ratings where melee dominates.
Doesn’t surprise me ret was bug like broken it’s going to take a while for the ladders to come correct. It would’ve been even worse had they waited till Tuesday like they initially planned . Give it time the nerf literally just happened, plus ret has been trash for years. Plenty of Specs that r S tier rn have been S tier for years and years always, why is it always the same specs that get to be overpowered?. Let Rets have their fun for once, people so used to folding rets it’s sad honestly. You got the rogue, war and lock players tryina talk when they’re the last ones who should when they’re blizzards pet classes. The rarely busted spec gets to have fun with the 24:7 busted specs thanks blizzard.
Warlocks don’t even exist at the top of the 3s ladder and Mages are surprisingly missing as well. Shadow Priest was the only arena-capable caster to really make it up to the same levels but they can’t do anything if a Ret is on the enemy team now because of Judgments of the Pure casually dismissing their damage.
I wouldn’t mind this being removed, I personally don’t really use it but I know how it is. But tbf ret doesn’t really have any good pvp talents anymore… majority were already trash but the few good ones we’ve had have been nerfed to utter sht so. I don’t know what blizzard plan is but hopefully thy do something about ret pvp talents.
