How are ret paladin’s aoe? I’ve heard they are good with the right azerite traits, but is it really that good and how do we fair in M+?
Ret has the best burst AOE in the game* and pretty high sustained AOE too. We do some priority damage during AOE, but nowhere near as good as say Fire or Outlaw. Our massive burst AOE can actually be a problem in M+, as even the best tank will struggle to hold threat against our max burst combo (wings -> blood -> wake -> kaboom). And playing Ret on skittish week is… interesting.
Overall Ret is in an “okay” position for M+. It’s not that the spec is bad per se, but Outlaw and Havoc are so OP that they crowd out the rest of the melee.
- except for Unholy DK on really huge pulls, as their DPS scales exponentially. That’s not something you’re likely to see outside the MDI however.
I’m going to echo what Kash said. Our burst AOE is amazing, but also problematic. I regularly burst up to 150k+ on decently sized trash packs, but also end up taking aggro on one or two of the mobs. Just remember that shield of vengeance is essential when dropping wings into massive aoe packs as it will save you from death on initial aggro and add to your damage when it expires. Also, my finger is always hovering over divine shield or loh.
As for sustained aoe, we’re on the high side of the middle of the pack. It really depends on your azerite traits (empyrean power) and talents (divine purpose) proccing at the right times. Keep in mind that divine purpose isn’t optimal for ST, and is primarily only useful in M+, so you’ll be taking a hit on your ST damage during Tyrannical weeks if you choose to roll with DP over Inquisition. In fact, the case can be made for Inquisition being better for sustained AOE, but I don’t have any numbers to back that up.
Ret has an AOE?
Empryian + Divine Storm
And once you get a vision proc… Alot of joy can be had
Ret aoe is fun but it depends on procs empryian + divine purpose + art of war. If these things proc and you have a lot of light’s decree you will smash but otherwise it does not.
