I’ve been using Destiny with a Crusader enchant since level 52, but I just got Bonecrusher from the quest in Dire Maul. (I tried making these hyperlinks to wowhead but I’m not allowed to do that, sorry).
Comparing the two is giving me a headache. I’m curious to hear input from others on this topic.
My thoughts so far on this:
Ignoring the crusader enchant (since I could put that on the mace, if needed), Destiny gives me a CHANCE at 200 str for 10 seconds (around once a minute if I get lucky - proc rate is said to be ~1.5 times a minute), while Bonecrusher gives me 30 permanent str and a 1% bonus to crit chance. They both have the same DPS, but Bonecrusher is slower, so it has higher flat damage.
Since Bonecrusher is slower, that would mean Seal of Command should proc on more hits (not more often, just a higher chance per hit based on the weapon speed). 7 procs a minute - at 3.0 sec weapon speed - is 7/20 hits. Seal of Command would proc on 7/23 hits with Destiny (2.6 sec weapon speed).
My unbuffed attack power with Destiny is 638. My DPS is 105.4. The damage output box on my character pane says 244 - 304 (105.4 x2.6 =274.04).
My unbuffed attack power with Bonecrusher is 704. My DPS is 110.4. The damage output box on my character pane says 296-366 (110.4 x3.0 =331.2).
So without any procs or enchants, Bonecrusher’s low end is roughly Destiny’s top end.
My crit chance with Destiny equipped is 15.07% (~1/7 hits should crit (100/15 =6.67)) - with Bonecrusher (after I level my 2h mace skill up) it will be 16.07% (~1/6 hits should crit (100/16 =6.25)).
By themselves (no spells or buffs), Destiny should crit roughly once every 17.33 seconds (2.6 x6.67), and Bonecrusher should crit roughly once every 18.75 seconds (3.0 x6.25). But since Destiny has lower flat damage, it will crit for less than Bonecrusher will…
I also can’t seem to get Destiny to proc (to check what 200 str actually does for me) without either critting (causing Vengeance to change these numbers), or without the Crusader enchant also proccing… Which leads me to another thought…
Higher crit chance is a must for the vengeance buff. So would higher crit chance and higher damage per hit matter more for DPS than an occasional 10 second buff to my strength?
I haven’t done this much math since high school, and I can’t figure out what to look at anymore. I’d appreciate a second set of eyes to check my math and let me know their opinion.
