Ret Paladin - P2

Will/Is Ret Paladin any good in Sod P2?

Runes seem pretty bad apart from Art of War

Coming from the S tier

It will have the same problems as vanilla wow if your charisma stat is 0 no one will invite you

Ret is trash as all new ret runes are targetting the exocism, a bad spell with terrible SP coefficient, that even if a ret pally is properly geared, the spell will still hit like a wet noodle.

Plus it takes away the flexibility of Ret in pvp as if you do not take exocist rune and take rubuke for example, you will benefit reallly little from the new runes…

The idea that the rebuke and exocist takes the same slot is just terrible.

Ret did fine in bfd though? I was usually 3rd or 1st on dps charts and divine storm hits like a truck. What will change in p2?

Our single target will be low but cleave will surely truck

Depends on how we do with mana tbh. Our damage won’t be that great over other classes and if AoW is a no go because of mana we will not be doing so well.

Holy should be good now that they get access to better talents, and Prot should be in a good place. It’s mainly just Ret with issues.

Ret should be ok but will likely be one of the weaker specs in P2. Viable but not the first choice in a group for your damage alone. Thankfully our seals and blessings are pretty nice in P2, casters will want us around at the very least. I’m sure Melee will want that extra 100+ AP from might. So back to being buff bots, at least they will last 10 min now.

It did fine, but you doing top 3 has more to do with the people you play with. If you played in a group with a better comp the Warriors, Rogues, WS Druid, Warlocks and Hunters will be a good bit ahead of you even if you play nearly perfect simply because their classes do more damage. Any PuG you join should have at least one of each of them, other than Warlock as they seem so rare and tend to be filled with another caster. Outside of the comps that give classes the buffs they need to perform properly Ret performs really well. I think it was mainly because of the WS issues, and CS/DS not procing seals that lowers our potential. With WS fixed we are not going to be as far behind in P1, but will need to see for P2.

Ret will be fine once again, but one of the weaker specs most likely. The WS fix with Ret will help out though for sure, and could change things.

The main difference in P2 is the other classes get proper capstone abilities that improve their damage a good bit like MS with warriors, while we get a CC. On top of new abilties while we get nothing extra other than Exo hitting a little harder. Our other talents are about the same as the talents other classes get now that we are not just auto attacking like in Era and make more use of them so not complaining about them other than our capstone being bad for PvE.

We will also be forced into Exo + Sheath + AoW and needing to take rebuke will be a pretty big drop in damage on top of making our other runes useless. If mana is too low for AoW we will gain very little from our P2 runes.

What’s so good about our cleave compared to other classes, more so now that they have their cleave spells and runes added? Ret will still just have DS for it and nothing else. Could also take AS but idk if that would be worth it over doing ST damage with Exo, along with the mana cost and long CD.

Best defensive class in the game wants more damage and burst… News at 11

lol a spell that gets reset when you crit isent going to do as much damage as starsurge or have a high coefficient, with vengeance and sanctity aura it does respectable damage and is a instant cast that resets very often, picking up sanctity aura and i kill faster than every other class around me with the buffed martyr with exo and my regular attacks

you benefit greatly in pvp from sacred shield and sheate of light makes you a good off healer while boosting damage further

PvE dps doesnt matter because this is CLASSIC WOW.

No dungeon or raid will ever not be cleared instantly.

Gosh you people speak in tier lists now… good job turning Classic into a second Retail.

I thought you needed 17 charisma to roll a paladin?

Wait, that was AD&D 2nd Edition rules. My bad!

The fact that the spell is terrible is just half the point. And someone who has been playing paladin in vanilla should have been used to spells not being super impactful or adequately useful.

The real issue is that Blizz tries to make a terrible spell work which (a) takes up two runes slot at least, after which it is still going to be bad, (b) does not give Ret any other options that, unless one uses the exocist, sheath of light and art of war runes, they will not have other relevant dps runes.

Art of War and Exocist are directly targeting the exocism. While sheath of light benefit all holy damage ability in theory, the current damage composition of Ret is predominantly physical so this rune will also not be very impactful unless one heavily uses exocism.

These new runes offers shockadin potentials to become more viable but for traditional Rets, they are simply bad runes.

I would be fine if exocsism is simpmy bad while there are other available runes for paladins.

We are way beyond classes. Everyone is either warrior or mage

Allowing Wild Strikes to proc off of CS/DS/Judgement is an appreciable improvement, as is the 5% mana return buff from CS. We also have a nice 3.6 speed sword that, alongside some scaling from Sheath of Light, will allow SoC to hit pretty hard.

Other than that, Exorcism and Art of War are pretty underwhelming. Rets will do respectable — not excellent — damage if you get good RNG, use the new profession items, etc.

As a longtime Ret player, I’d say we’ll be top B-tier in PvE. Unless you’re a speedrunner or play at the highest margins, Ret will be fine this phase

Ret will only be balanced if they can dps as well as warriors and heal as well as priests and stealth as well as rogues anything else and the class is literally unplayable

Who is saying the class is unplayable? Did a Ret gank you and hurt your feelings? Let’s not get carried away here

How is being near the bottom of the DPS tables in P1 S tier? The only current S tier classes coming out of P1 are warriors and rogues.

I think overall looking at the P2 runes, it’s a bit hard to tell, on the positive side the major issues which relegated Ret to a meme spec were fixed in P1, and while even though not near the top of the DPS tables, Ret was viable. As for the runes, I think people are going to have to see how they work out. They seem weaker overall especially DPS wise, but in general more of the runes in P2 for all classes seem to boost DPS less, and a lot more are slotted to provide more utility.

In addition to the runes, I think they also made some changes to Seal of Martyrdom which likely will make it much better on boss fights, both in terms of DPS as well as for Mana management, this should allow better use of Exorcism without going out of mana when using Art of War (feet). The second rune will be a more interesting, as while Sheath of Light would add a small boost in SP increasing the damage with most attacks being physical and having low SP Coefficents, enlightened judgements might prove the better option simply for having the 17% spell hit.

For PvP also the extended 30 range for judgements (enlightened judgements) would also likely be huge, as paladins being slow with few closing options have issues and in general are easier to kite, as this would give them 2 ranged attacks (exorcism/judgement).

Yep, along with 13 wisdom, 12 strength, 9 intelligence and constitution, in addition to being a human. (Side note: I started playing tabletop in 2002 with 3.0, AD&D 1e is my preference; I have no idea how people managed to legitimately roll paladins with 2e’s Method I of 3d6 down the line with the same requirements as 1e, which the Method I was 4d6k3, arrange to taste.)

If I were on an RP server and I was role-playing an AD&D character on there, I’d probably have to RP a dwarf fighter/cleric that reeeally wanted to be a paladin and tries to be one, but isn’t really one.

Ret is literally unplayable without mortal strike and penance - they might as well just stop development now
