Ret Paladin needs a buff

Can Ret Paladin get a buff to their healing and mobility? Compared to other classes it is bottom tier. Their damage is okay but they lack survivability especially in 2s or if in solo if a game goes on for too long. The other problem is how squishy they are compared to Warrior and DK. They are still kinda fun in battlegrounds though because of their damage isn’t bad. Also I know some people who do not main Paladins are just going to say its a skill issue and they’re right I am only an 1800 player but I started looking up why I was losing so much and best comps ranked and stuff. Turns out most Youtubers have ranked Paladin as the worst class right now. Look it up for yourself before commenting. Ret cannot compete with DH, Warrior, and some of the casters. On my Warlock I destroy Rets. In summary they need a survivability buff. What do you guys think?

Ret damage is definitely is good place. Survivability and mobility are a joke at the moment.

I don’t think that WoG is scaling with PvP gear atm tbh. WoG should be an impactful heal because you are sacrificing DMG to do it and we have no other good defensives besides our heal. I just posted about bubbe being trash because you cant even use it anymore due to a .5 second MD and theres priests everywhere. It’s stupid. Ret’s dmg is good and where it needs to be but defensive wise they are dog tier and you get shredded because of dumb stuff like MD and crap heals. Full DPS classes heal more than you, who needs to play a hybrid…

This probably isn’t the right place to post this. Even if they prune everything out of the spec and only leave lets say hammer of wrath, if other classes can cover for all of the spec’s deficiencies in 3s and your hammer can sometimes crit for 1 mill dmg every 1 or 2 mins people will say “it’s playable”.

Wog could use some love. It’d be nice to have some sort of an option against casters like mobility or magic damage reduction.

But the biggest problem ret has is that all of it’s counters are ridiculously strong lol. If spriest, lock, dh, and dk weren’t so oppressive and stacked in every game because they’re over tuned ret would feel pretty strong.

Don’t get me wrong they would still be easily countered, easily cc’d, easily killed, and they would have almost no good comps still, but it wouldn’t feel SO bad. If HOJ was physical stun and wasn’t so easily dispelled/dodged/ran away from/grounded/immuned ret might even broken.

Our burst with all CDs could be toned down a bit TBH, our defensives are horrible though and mobility is gawd awefull. Double casters is so bad, a frost mage makes you want to uninstall.

I mean if they make Ret like the top 4 melee, a lot of ranged classes that are already not doing so hot will be even worse off. I’m sure they enjoy being able to effectively kite now and again.

Nurf the CD stacked burst and give me better DRs and real mobility. If they tone down the other melee and don’t adjust casters it will get worse for us, more casters even the non dominant ones will still be counters.

Nurf DH, war, DK, rogue, lock, SP + give Ret real DRs and more mobility. That’s what we need to compete, hard to stay positive right now, a lot needs to change.

It’s true, we don’t really have any good matchups. We have bad matchups and terrible ones.

if they lose the burst… sure… cant have it all…
the class isnt really bad, its that warriors, dh’s and dk’s are just too strong and overbearing

We are actually bad into casters. No way around it, an effective gap closer every 45 doesn’t cut it.

You are correct in saying that the 4 over tuned melee make it feel even worse. Throw a dispel/purge/MD/shattering throw ect in there and we have no effective defensives. Even if you do more damage/burst on paper dispel removing our stun and DRs while another melee get to use their DRs/stun we get chunked harder.

I’m stunned if my BoP isn’t removed within a second or two and happy when my bubble does it’s intended job of saving my life.

I agree. Buff ret mobility, healing, defensives, throw in a new utility, and you have the definition of what a hybrid is supposed to look like. Big dam every 2min, sustained weaker than a pure dps spec, but compensates with util/heals

I dont think the OP was talking about Ret damage, ret damage is in a great spot.

It is, the burst I’ve seen is ridiculous. None of the melee need a buff right now. Anything that feels like it’s underperforming will feel much better when the current offenders are dealt with.

Maybe worth mentioning; my 2’s partner and I run Ret/healer. We were having an awful time playing Ret/Rsham so I leveled/geared an Rdruid and it really filled in a lot of the gaps that we were missing with Ret losing so much sustain. We had a really good session today playing it. Duno if you play with a regular guy or not, but that may be worth looking into.

I would like to add that I think Ret Paladin’s damage is fine. I just think they lack the survivability of the other melee classes. It is frustrating when I outplay someone and still lose because they can out heal me. Flash of light and word of glory do not heal like they used too and the lack of mobility makes kiting more difficult. I think with just a healing buff could make Ret compete with other melee classes and would not make them OP. This would make them more fun to fight and more fun to play.

I’d like to see 1m SoV/DP, Freedom built into Steed, WoG unnerfed. Class has some bugs (Seal of Order doesn’t buff Radiant Decree or Justicar’s Vengeance apparently), too. I don’t really see a way to fix this, but getting an hpal in shuffle as ret also feels terrible for both parties.

Our trees could also use work. Why do you have to choose between JV and Eye for an Eye? Why do none of the TV talents buff JV? Why do half the trees focus on Consecrate? Just odd.

just because other things are overturned doesn’t mean you should rise to meet them.

every class spec should fit into the 10 point system

ret is currently like:
damage - 6
sustain - 2
mobility - 1
cc - 1
total = 10

whereas dh is like:
damage - 9
sustain - 5
mobility - 9
cc - 4
total = 27

This is exactly how Cata ret felt like with Aura Mastery, I was so looking into this expansion thinking the “new talent trees” would finally address some of the spec’s core deficiencies and…
