Ret Paladin Herald Vs Templar question

Is there any reason to play herald? templar from what I can tell does significantly more damage and creates numerous openings for pressure. What is the reason these high rated players are using it? genuine question because I do want to understand.

Templar is stronger unless you are fighting stuff that is very tanky, or you are fighting things that can get away or keep you at arms length a lot (like mages and warlocks). The big benefit of Herald is it basically does the same amount of damage regardless of uptime.

May have to test this myself a bit further, it just feels so lackluster like it has no killing power aside from dragging on the fight. (personally)

This was my understanding. Templar better for goes, herald better for sustained.

Herald does more damage by far and is not even close but templar has the on demmamd “big” hit.

Herald is still better imo, the anshe hammer of wrath proc can hit just as hard as hammer of light and the 5% damage increase on soenders is felt. Herald also has better selfsustain and offheals, a better snare and plays by itself since every radiant glory proc puts dawnlights on enemies

Templars hammer of light can be completely ignored by so many spells. Can be disarmed, parried and dodged, priest faded, grounded, reflected, shadowmelded, cloaked, evasioned, vanished, feign death, ams, alter timed (the damage) I have even seen mages completely negate it by blinkin (idk how).
