Ret Paladin Concerns

Dear Blizzard,

First and foremost, I want to express my gratitude for the incredible work you’ve done on World of Warcraft: Season of Discovery. Phase 1 was a blast, and I’m excited about the journey that Phase 2 is unfolding. However, I’d like to address some concerns I have regarding the Retribution Paladin, specifically in terms of mana usage and rune mechanics.

While Phase 1 runes were fantastic, it feels like Phase 2 runes could use some improvements, especially for Retribution Paladins. Every other class seems to be getting exciting and unique abilities, and we appreciate the diversity. Unfortunately, it seems like Ret Paladins are mostly receiving repurposed WoTLK abilities and a few Shaman abilities like Tremor.

My primary concern revolves around mana usage and rune mechanics. Currently, Ret Paladins are the only class that forces runes to be used for other runes, such as Exorcism for Art of War. The issue is that we run out of mana incredibly fast, especially when compared to other classes that have received fixes for mana concerns.

For example, Balance Druids get free Wrath, Shamans get free Chain Lightning Bolt with no mana cost, and instant casts, and Druids have Starsurge – a massive nuke with no mana cost. I believe the potential of Art of War could be truly amazing if it meant Exorcism costed no mana.

Alternatively, Sheath of Light could provide some intellect for Attack Power, making it more viable and rewarding for Ret Paladins.

I’m not asking to be the top DPS, but I do want to feel that the runes we have are both good and viable. It would be great if you could address these concerns and consider making adjustments to ensure Retribution Paladins have a more balanced and enjoyable experience in Phase 2.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,
A Concerned Retribution Paladin

I don’t know how they are designing the runes, if they have a team for each class or if it’s just one person haphazardly designing runes for each class. Whatever the case may be, I feel as though some classes got shafted while other classes have been gifted by the gods themselves.

Ngl, not touching AoW unless they do something like that because Guarded is so strong for us and sustained.

While I understand the concept of the hybrid tax, I’d like to bring attention to the shared sentiment that “everyone should feel as OP as warriors.”

My primary concern is with the lack of substantial changes in the Retribution Paladin rotation. Despite being in a new phase, there are no new abilities or engaging talents, making the gameplay feel somewhat stagnant. I’m not aiming for chart-topping performance, but introducing some fresh elements to our rotation would greatly enhance the overall experience.

I appreciate the introduction of the Art of War rune, which has the potential to add excitement to our gameplay by resetting Exorcism. However, the issue lies in our mana usage, which is currently suboptimal. I propose considering adjustments, such as making Exorcism cost no mana when triggered by either the Exo rune or the Art of War rune, to better align with our mana constraints.

Guarded by the light is mandatory or we are out of mana within a few attacks. Art of war is far too weak by itself. Honestly, art of war and exorcist should just be merged and the proc should make exo free to cast. This would solve most of rets dps and mana problems this tier. We shouldn’t need multiple runes to prop up a single underwhelming ability anyway. Between sheath, exorcist and art of war, you’d think exo would be hitting harder than a starsurge but na lol
