Ret pal discussion

  1. Crit should be prioritized but you really need both crit and attack power so stuff with both is better.

  2. You should keep using The unstoppable Force, OEB for a human isn’t quite as awesome since you already get +5 to maces and the crit should be priority over attack power.

  3. A hybrid ret-holy spec might be the way to go if you can manage to pick up 5/5 Illumination in the holy tree. Paladins just don’t push big dps numbers even when you min-max but you can still fill a more flexible role where you switch between a healing set and a dps set, depending on the fight. Those judgments of wisdom are pretty nice to have and its far more efficient to have a ret paladin judging that then a holy paladin. The judgment set is really good for pvp but in raids you’d probably want a separate set for dps and healing.

The OP is trying to min/max. He’s just doing so with a non-optimal spec.

And I find this anti-min/max attitude people have to be a bit silly. Why is it a bad thing to try and push yourself beyond the limits? Why is it a bad thing to try hard?

In a world of 30 min raid clears, in what way is ret a liability to that? 31 min clear maybe?

Gonna need to flask, and pay a guild to guarantee a drop for you (or offer some obscene amount of gold to the winner of the roll)

Go on the paladin discord, they have some nutter min maxers who think of every possible optimization for ret dps

I doubt there are many guilds clearing MC in under an hour with ret paladins.

And at any rate, MC is not what I’m referring to. Rets are going to be extremely rare unicorns when AQ40 and Naxx come. Casual guilds running non-optimal specs probably won’t cut it.

What you do is go into gnomer

Farm crowd pummelers

Then buff urself massively, that’s the best way especially if you have no gear

The fact your’e ever top 10 in ur raid says most of the other DPS in your raid are terrible not you are good lol

Granted on shorter fights you can get lucky…But it don’t sound like you have very short fights relative to teh rest of the game either.

Stop playing druid. Priests and Shamans are better healers, your DPS sucks regardless of spec when compared to a rogue, fury warrior, or mage. Take your own advice and stop being a drag on the raid, unless you’re willing to be the moron minion that does nothing but gives out Gift and B. Rez.

I’m not referring to the speed in its self, merely using it as an indicator of the content. You have first day new content being done sub 40 mins, and saying a handful of sub-optimal specs in the raid are somehow going to dead stop guilds is silly.

You’re never going to be top dps no matter what you do. Its just that’s the way the class is. It’s not good for damage.

Probably like most druids and play for the ez loot.

I’m my guilds ret paladin and I’ve managed to carve out a solid niche for myself where I’m definitely missed on the raids I cannot make it to. Here’s a list of things I heavily recommend doing to get the most out of playing retribution.

  1. Get a nightfall axe. It boosts your caster dps in raid 5-6% every fight if if you spec properly and have 9% hit capped and the proper enchants. This added damage and your.own personal dps makes you a valuable addition to the raid.
  2. Talent into whatever blessing is needed for your raid
  3. Use your free globals to dispel and make sure you are emergancy healing when needed.
  4. Keep wisdom up on the boss on longer fights
  5. Have a healing set to swap to if your short a healer or healing is having a tough time with a specific encounter.
  6. You arnt there to dps. You are there to buff other dps and be the guy that saves a tank with loh, a dps that pulls threat with bop, and to support the raid.

If you want top dps youll have to play a top dps class. Ret paladins are never top dps in vanilla.

A myth. Resto druids aren’t good to stack. But if you have only one in your raid they can top healing meters.

Ok. Of those first week sub-45 minute clears can you find me any guilds that ran a ret paladin?

For single target burst healing, druid is the top. They fill a niche. Not one that you would want to stack too many of, but they have their place.

Oh look, the moron calls it a myth when someone badmouths HIS class. it’s almost like he doesn’t understand hypocrisy.

Oh look, someone can spam their best heals when they don’t need mana. lulz

It’s not trying hard. It’s using a cookie-cutter build/gear/etc. to optimize your dps/healing/tanking whatever. You don’t have to “try hard” to do that, you literally have to just dump tons of time into the game to farm everything necessary.

It’s the min/maxing attitude that’s the problem, not the effort in itself. Most min/maxers are toxic elitists that treat others terribly and leave them in the dust if they don’t do as a min/maxing guide says…pretending to be good because they can read.

Yes, look.

Top guilds run a resto druid. There’s a reason for that.

Top guilds don’t run ret paladins. There’s a reason for that as well.
