Ret Crowd Pummeler

As a Ret that was gunning hard for seal twisting, the Automatic Crowd Pummeler + Martyrdom build has made me realize that fast 2 handers just make the spec work better. Seals proc more, Vengeance procs more and we get more swings inside it, Exorcism resets more, Judgements don’t fall off anymore, Martyrdom gives us more mana back, etc. Fast weapons really fix most of Ret’s issues.

Problem is, all of our future weapons are slow. How do we fix this?

I’m hoping for a rune that sets the base swing speed of weapons to 2 seconds. This would allow us to go for the traditional weapons without losing the awesome rapid-fire playstyle we have with the Pummeler.

There are some alternate ways to solve this problem. They could rebalance future weapons to make some of them faster, but that could be a lot of work and upset other specs.

They could also a new counterweight to set any weapon’s speed to 2 seconds, but that could break other specs and would leave us unable to use late game weapon enchants.

The devs will likely just add new runes to make slow weapons best again. While this may end up “balanced” damage-wise, Ret will lose a lot of QoL granted by the Pummeler speed. We need a way to make weapons faster in P3 and onwards.

Much rather have big crits than fast swings.

Faster swings also make it easier to mess up reapplying a Seal before the swing after a Judgement.

Did you, by chance, post this in Light Club? I feel like I read this, nearly verbatim, in Light Club.

On topic: There will likely be fast 2h weapons in P3 and P4, probably even strength-based ones. That having been said, while this is good for Seals and Vengeance, it’s bad for Divine Storm, and it just shoehorns you more into using Exorcism. In P1, P2, P3, it’ll be fine, but I feel there will be a flood of extremely salty pally tears in P4 when our spell miss chance against bosses goes up to 17% baseline and we can’t just run Enlightened Judgements because we need Sheath of Light up for both DPSing or tanking. (Heck, even a healer can benefit from it, for giving a HoT from crit heals while it’s equipped.)

We’re already using four of our five runes to funnel as much usage and damage into Exorcism as we can if we’re doing damage at all in most cases; these either need to be heavily consolidated, or there needs to be something more functional that isn’t reliant on stacking all these runes on an ability you can’t even use without one rune except against demons & undead.

Must be nice lol. I have done gnomer on multiple toons and never seen it drop once so I’ll probably never experience having crowd pummeler then again I’m kinda getting bored of sod

Yeah it’s essentially feast or famine right now, based only on this one weapon. Adding a 2sec weapon rune would solve this issue going forward. And for slow weapon enjoyers, there could be a competing rune to buff command or offer DS resets.

While I’m enjoying the fast swing time stuff now (still no acp tho) you’re extremely on point about having to use multiple runes to funnel damage into exo. Really hoping we get something to allow for more diverse and viable ret pally playstyles.
