Ret AOE went to crap after Reset

Anyone else feel like our AOE has went to crap after this reset. I went from doing high AOE before reset to struggling to do half of what I was last week.

Still the same DPS for me lol

That’s where you went wrong btw.

Data > “feels”

Could be a plethora of things related specifically to “you” (conditions you’re in) and not the game.

Dungeons you ran, talent switch, pull size, comp used, the literal people you ran with being better, etc…

It’s not a coincidence M+ damage is not aggregated anywhere despite people still running logs in it.

It’s worthless because you can get wildly different results depending on those multiple factors.

So what you need is to compare log for log the average damage of your abilities, if it’s somewhat the same then it probably means its external to you.

Empyrean Hammer will deal significantly less damage on small pulls or with spread mobs.
So if you get a tank that pulls no more than 5 mobs at a time, you might perform significantly worse.
Maybe you played with people who just got to get their damage out earlier than you did and they killed all the small mobs without you being able to significantly damage them before hand.

Which is something Ret is pretty good at doing to others on lower key level/difficulties.

As you go up higher in keys, you might also go down because your upfront damage doesn’t hold to the ramp of other classes which benefits from longer pulls.

Maybe your stat distribution changed.

Whilst the value of each individual stats stays relatively close in ST at the point we are now, for AoE there are stats and interactions that makes some of them much more potent.
Such as Crit combined with EH Wrathful Descent.

In ST, the EH just crits, it’s double damage just like any other abilities.
In AoE, its double damage on the main target but it’s 125% of damage dealt on everything around it.

So if EH deals 50 damage, the crit is 100, a 50 damage gain in ST.
If there are 5 mobs around then it hits all 5 of them for 125 additional damage, that’s a 675 damage gain.
The crit didn’t double its damage, it made it do 13,5 times the damage it would have done if it had been a normal hit.

So just for EH for example, lets keep the assumption it deals 50 damage for a moment and suppose you’re hitting 5 targets total (1 main 4 around).
Lets then say you drop from 30% crit to 20% crit and keep this in a vaccum for simplicity sake and pretend EH hits 10 times.

In ST it would only be a loss of around 7.7% from 30% to 20% crit
But in AoE it would be a 25,6% drop
