I main Ret but would like to off-spec Prot. I’ve done so in the past but stopped because they’ve drifted apart in recent xpacs.
Ret no longer actively uses Crusader Strike, Consecration, or Avenging Wrath. Some of this streamlining is great: I think the whole class should get rid of Cons or apply it passively. Some of it, like passive CS, works well for Ret but perhaps wouldn’t for the other two specs. And some of it, like passive AW, perhaps took streamlining too far. So Ret and Prot should meet somewhere in the middle here.
Other abilities that should be streamlined:
- If Divine Hammer is revived it should share a node with another active talent.
- Bastion of Light and Moment of Glory should likewise share a node.
- BoP and Spellwarding should share a node on the class tree for all paladin specs. Reshape the utility pie or reduce the durations a bit if necessary, just make this work because the current implementation is incredibly inelegant and cumbersome.
A lot of classes and specs are getting streamlined. It would be a good thing for everyone if Prot Pal were included in this because less friction between the melee DPS spec(s) and the tanking spec of any given class means more tanks. If anything tanks should have easier rotations because it’s the role with the most responsibility. This would also lead to more tanks, which means shorter queues for everyone.
