Has anyone here ever had an account that was untouched for for 9 or so years… An account that is locked in time from WOTLK or early CATA…
An account that you brought back from the dead?
How did that feel? Should I try it?
My mage is frozen in time at lvl 85. I want to see what it feels like. I haven’t played a mage since then.
I have an account from before WoW Accounts merged with BNET Accounts that I’ve ticketed about 3 separate times and have been unable to recover despite providing every potential email address, every potential account owner name, every potential address and billing information, and even narrowing things down to a few potential character names using Realmpop before it was broken.
I’m not convinced it wasn’t just absorbed into the Void during that transitional period since it was never merged.
I’ve had an achievement and title outright disappear with no warning and with no records on Blizzard’s end to restore it, so…
I HAVE successfully recovered the account info for my first Runescape account from when I was 10. But the reason I stopped using that account was because I was scammed for my password and didn’t think to ticket support about it at that age. So it was used for further scamming and got banned, and appeals about it (more than a decade later) were denied, and Jagex has no live chat to attempt to talk about it with anyone.
I literally just did this, untouched since early mists, but really since cata (i didn’t play at all either).
I have characters on an old server at level 70 that have not been played even for one minute since i was doing BT progression in TBC
Yes, I recovered a TBC account recently. Use the account restoration feature on battle net and open a ticket. You’ll go back and forth on exchanging information with them, and may have to do things such as scan a valid Id, etc. to recover the account, provide things like a previous address or phone number, depending on what information you can already provide on the account.
Its not too bad if you remember most of the account information. I did it with my account, stopped playing at the end of Cata due to PCS orders and sudden health problems subsequent, got out into civilian life, found my feet and just came back when COVID hit. It was a trip trying to figure everything out but blizzard was very helpful, even took the Authenticator off my account within and hour since that puppy was long gone.
All told it took about a week to locate everything ( there were Technical difficulties on their end resulting in me not being able to locate which server I had been on) and get it all restored so I could start playing again but it was a relatively painless process…as long as you have the information they need to process things.
Now gear itemization…that was something completely different…none of my gear had the right stats, gems, enchants…it was all wrong no matter what content I was doing when I left. I asked and they told me in the stat squishes these things didn’t translate to the newer stat layouts and were changed…to Strength…on a druid…yeah didn’t think much of that lol.
I brought mine back easily with the help of a GM, I provided the original registration key and everything, and it was easily merged into my bnet. It was cool to come back and see all those crazy things I did I still had, even though they were now meaningless.
there should have only been one account owner name.
it sounds more like they were unable to verify that you were the owner, and weren’t just going to give you an account which wasn’t yours.
Account was made when I was a minor, so I’m unsure if it was under my name or my parents, that’s all.
I’m fairly certain they would have said something along the lines of “This account exists, but we cannot give you information since the names do not match” if this was the case.
i’m pretty sure that if it was under a parents name, they’d need to be the one to initiate contact
otherwise, blizz wouldn’t know if you were trying to steal a family members account… or an account of someone with a similar name.
i suppose things can get tricky when a lot of time has passed
you should do it! I recovered my vanilla account and man it was a trip down memory lane. Still had arrows and a quiver
I have a bunch of characters on old realm I haven’t touched since 2007-2009. Got a twink dwarf hunter with a sword and off hand equipped. I bet he still has a mama pool. I go look at them from Time to time.
My friend had an account, but forgot his info after vanilla and came back last year. He had a ticket in for a different reason and the GM asked him if he had a vanilla account under his name, he said yes. The GM asked him what his three main vanilla toons names were and he answered. The GM asked if he wanted to move his old main to his new account and he said sure, why not. The GM gave him a free transfer from that old account. I think he verified the credit card and a few other things first, but he said it went without a hitch.
Thanks all!
I got a response and it seems they located the account and will be bringing it back to me. <3
What a good day.
I can’t wait to have my mage back. I had the Blood Guard title and all the transmog from Vanilla and BC. (if it works that way, I hope? I know transmog wasn’t added until later)
Man. I am excited.
Whoever stole it transferred it to a new realm. So I may have to pay for a character transfer, but that is life I guess lol
I lost my Vanilla account a few months into Cata because an hard authentication stopped working and no one in CE could get it working or unlinked at the time. I finally got it back early this year LOL. I just logged in and picked up leveling where I left off. When the stay at home order hit and blizz gave us the XP and rep buffs that let me re-grind pathfinder for Legion and BFA.
That’s great and did it feel good? I am freaking out because I raided HEAVILY on the character on that account. Like, non-stop. I am curious to see the transmog I have and possible mounts / titles.
I also killed all the city bosses too. So I must have a mount or title for that.
You can restore and have them MERGE your old account to your new one so you get achievements that are acc wide.
merg .net accounts not actual wow accounts/characters
Yup, it looks like that will be happening. They asked if I want to merge them on my account. I’m excited.
I should end up having a bunch of achievements from vanilla, bc, and possibly WOTLK. Apparently they also found another account I had either lost track of when I deleted an old email account and forgot my password to login to WoW.
REALLY interested to see that shaman after all these years. I raided most of WOTLK on her.

This one from Cata.
It also involved the recovery of a yahoo mail account and the whole process took two days and a lot of back and forth, despite the fact that I have a working old-style authenticator. Now I have all info, including character names, backed up in hard copy in my file cabinet and would recommend everyone do the same.
Not quite that long, but a few years untouched. I didn’t even remember the login info but worked with customer service for a bit and was able to provide enough info to suffice and they revived it for me. It was my original account and I made the incorrect move of transferring old toons from the old account to my new one instead of the other way around and lost some account specific items. “Tyrael’s charger, Onyxia bpet, etc.”
Lot of toons to move back though… lol
