Restoring mail on more than one character?

I didn’t think the system would screw me over because I did this exact same thing a month ago on one alt by accident.

Everything is there. Nothing is missing. I’m limited to one character’s mail restore every 15 days, and after 30 days, everything not restored is deleted. I hate this company so much.

mm you probably got lucky with the timing last month. the return mail policy has been in place for a long time.

Its a harsh lesson to learn but if they can not bypass the countdown (thats hard coded alot of the time) there really isnt much they can do beyond that.

Since 2007, mail has always returned after 30 days if sent to the wrong character.

From our very own Vrakthris.

Yes, that was evident as recently as May, per Kalviery’s post I linked. The official article on that subject was also updated a month ago. It doesn’t reflect the 30-day bounce back that used to exist either.

So theres 2 basic options when recovering mail. In 30 days any AH mail will auto delete, any mail sent to another toon will bounce back. You also have a 3rd option, where if you have sent mail to the wrong toon by mistake, you can actually retrieve that mail as long as it isnt opened (Ive used this when Ive sent mail to starter DH toons ive never bothered leveling out of the starter zone before). So has the 30 days actually passed yet? Or are you trying to auto claim back mail before the 30 days?

There’s no mail in my alt or my main’s mailbox other than a few things I’ve bought. This is the case for every character. All of the items are showing up in Expired mail recovery, so I’m going to assume all of the mail isn’t coming back in game.

And has it been one round of 30 days, or 60 since the mails were originally sent? (Sorry just trying to clarify in order to ensure we are setting the correct expectations). If they have been in the mail system for 60 days total, so the send then send back, thats it. If its just been 30 days, it may be in the process of returning, there could have been a policy change (I couldnt see anything specifically about sent mail) or perhaps theres some kind of bug.

Only way to even get a concrete answer on your options will be a ticket, I’m just another player like you trying to help sort some frustration and give some options around it. Ticket times are blown out atm as well but just prepare yourself for being told theres nothing they can do.

You’re most certainly going to attract Blizzard attention, I just don’t think it’s going to be the sort of attention you want.

Your situation is entirely self-inflicted, I’m not sure why you’re raging at the company. You knew mail expires after 30 days, yet you still chose to let it sit in the mailbox rather than spend the 30 seconds it would have taken to collect it and save yourself this heartache.

30 days, that’s why I’m confused.

The words I could say to you would bring me such happiness. Bless your heart.

Does the mail restoration service indicate which mails will be restored to which characters? I’ve never had to use it, so I don’t know.

I did some googling.

The bounce back has been around forever. I’d love to know why it’s not working with me.

Yes, that’s a post from 2019, over 3 years ago. You might have noticed that in this thread I’ve made no mention at all regarding the bounce-back. I could test it out, but it would take me about 30 days to let you know if it’s working for me.

What you haven’t mentioned is whether or not the items are listed in the restoration feature. Are they there or are they missing from there too?

You also said that your mailbox is showing “some” mail. When there is a massive number of pieces of mail, there have been situations where it virtually breaks the mailbox. Try emptying whatever is there and see if more mail shows up.

Are you using any addons at all (not just for mail, but any at all)? There’s a possibility that there’s an issue with your UI or an Addon causing the mail not to show. Try a Full UI Reset and see if that helps.

If all else fails, put in a ticket to see if a GM can see or restore the mail.

Seems like they’ve done such for one toon already, so it’d seem some items would be gone after the 2nd go around of restoring the mail for two toons.

Thanks Tolna. I did indeed miss that. Was just hopeful that maybe it was a UI issue or something else going on.

I said that all my items are in the restoration option, the expired mail…whatever it is. I’m worried that because it’s automated, I won’t get any further help from a gm and all of my items will be gone on all but one character.

Where was that said?

…?

You’d need to put in a ticket to see what a GM can do. If I were to go simply with what is linked in the Support Article, I don’t think a GM will be able to bypass any hard-coded restrictions, but only a GM will be able to confirm that.

You actually linked it.

Bolded.

In any event, a ticket will be your last avenue to see if/what a GM can do to help.

Make notes/screen shots of everything on the restoration pages. A GM may need to know the specific items missing.

Why were there no patch notes on this?

I lost a lot of mail, only discovering over time that I’m getting not getting mail bounced back from my alt.

Checking the support site, the expiration policy was updated 2 months ago.

Why were we not notified of the policy change 2 months ago? Did I miss it? where was it?

I would have prepared if I had known they were going to change the policy. It feels like with something like this type of change, we should have gotten notified, through patch notes, or in-game mail from Blizzard warning us.

I don’t disagree, in the fact that there should have been some sort of public announcement made through hotfix or something (I admittedly do not recall seeing it anywhere either, but I could be wrong) - but in the same thread, mail was never intended to be secondary bag/bank space which too many people leaned on it for. That there was a grace period for stuff to be kicked back was nice, but it contradicted the whole “after 30 days mail disappears” and it was being taken advantage of.

It’s too little, too late now, but if you need help keeping track of what mail you’ve got that is nearing expiration? If you don’t mind add-ons, look into Alt-o-holic. It’s annoying in that you do have to log into each of your characters once it’s installed, but once the initial leg work is done it gives you a pop-up warning that an alt on your account that you sent mail to is nearing expiration (I want to say it’s like 5 days before deletion?) so you know you need to grab the mail before it’s too late.

Mail shouldn’t disappear. Items lost to time just because someone wants to take a break from the game or forgets to loot something is flat out stupid.
