Resto Shaman or Mistweaver Monk

Hey guys, I’m making this post because I’m having a hard time deciding what healer I would like to go and so far I’ve narrowed it between Resto Shaman and Mistweaver Monk but the main factor was just holding me back from deciding between these two healers is that I’m not gonna be playing in an organized group in mythic plus because I do not have a group to run with and I plan to push high keys one I get better with healing in the future and end game raiding as well.

I have the impression that Rshaman is always in a safe, comfy zone, performace-wise for these 2 seasons of TWW. But you probably shouldn’t pick a class because of that, as balancing is a true rollercoaster every season.

Gameplay wise I prefer Shaman because of the sheer utility it brings. MW can also dish out a lot of damage, but Fistweaving has its downsides of forcing you into needing melee awareness, which can stack up with healer responsibilities. The overall added damage is good, but not exactly something that would represent a huge edge on the other healers, or else nobody would bring anyone sans MW or Discs.

Another thing that makes me lean towards Shaman is that their DPS specs are (imo) infinitely cooler, and more diverse, than Windwalker, and chances are that at least one of them turns out to be competitively good.

Shaman is better at recovering from mistakes players make.

Monk is a straight up powerhouse if youre familiar with the dungeons damage profiles.

Melee healers tend to be a little harder to grasp. Id suggest Shaman personally

Resto Shaman.

A cliche response but whatever you’re comfortable with. You’ll have to give them a try

I’d try playing both and seeing how you actually like playing them. You can do a little on both and get vaults and crests on both to some degree in case you want to swap later.

As far as pugging goes, sometimes having a lust can make it easier to get into a group that needs it, but the current top healer in M+ has no bres, lust or interrupt.

MW probably have more mitigation I’d guess with ox shields, life cocoon and celestial cooldown bubbles. Farseer actually does have bubbles also, but playing Farseer is annoying currently since you have to hard-cast healing rain.

Not if you never played Totemic in the first place

I play both and both specs are great. You’ll have an easier time fitting into pugs with shaman. Shaman is also much more chill. MW has been the most fun healing spec for a long time whether or not it was very strong. You can’t go wrong with either.

Both of these are awesome picks for pug healing in M+. It really comes down to whether you prefer melee or ranged.

Resto Shaman bugs me a bit because of its positioning requirements (huge focus on Healing Rain rn with Totemic Hero Spec + Chain Heal always relies on people being clumped enough for it to actually chain) + Spirit Link being a relatively small ground effect people need to be close to contribute to & benefit from).

But all of that said, it’s one of the most pure reactive healers and has a lot of strong cooldowns, which will always make it a solid pick, especially in a pug environment where you get a mixed bag of competency.

Holy Priest being the other, but it’s design in TWW is kind of awful IMO. I hate that we’ve basically switched to pretending the AoE spells don’t exist in an M+ setting. That’s a design or Tuning failure or both. And Oracle just isn’t my jam. It’s like playing with the Faerie ability from Night Fae.

Instant cast in pvp

mistweaver is not in the best spot heading forward. they have nerfed it over and over again, while disc priest has been left nearly untouched, and gettting a love tap on tuesday. not only that, but this season’s dungeons are constantly forcing movement, and forcing movement out of melee during high healing events

Resto sham, but I’m biased. We’re also S tier in raid

MW because it’s the most fun spec in the game.

I’m totally not biased though….

I personally like MW over RSham but I PvP on my MW.

Somewhat bias because 70% of my keys are with friends.

I’d say Resto shaman, tho MW isn’t bad. There is a good amount of passive healing on both.

hmmm, both have a history of being kicked in the teeth by blizz to an absolutely horrendous degree. monk tends to get nerfed entirely— meaning if one spec goes down, its taking all of them with it— whereas resto tends to fair okay for the most part.

personally i find mist to be fantastic. fun, engaging, effective, mobile…
shaman is boring but effective. great effects and sounds too.
