Resto Shaman or Disc/Holy Priest?

Hi there,

I am between Resto Shammy and Disc/Holy Priest for WOTLK Classic and, having never made it to end game on any WoW, would love some input on what might be best for me.

I enjoy reactive healing from a distance (FFXI white mage was my favorite) and prefer night elf aesthetics.

Based on my research, it seems priest would be the way to go. However, the idea of spamming the PW shield (not to mention, I don’t know any of the fights) doesn’t sound that appealing to me. I know holy isn’t ideal either, and it is seemingly used when there is already a Disc priest. I read it is more competitive to gear as a cloth-wearer, although having 2 healers is appealing as is the NE aesthetic.

The shammy seems more my playstyle, assuming I can get familiar with all of the totems instead of straight buffs. But I am worried about being asked to DPS and having no off-spec choices, and heard Shammies are likely the first healer to be asked to DPS. Gear seems less competitive as a mail-wearer, but I would also miss the NE aesthetic. This also seems bottom-tier along with Holy Priest, but, at least on my server, they seem so rare that there is a demand.

Am I missing anything or mistaken on anything? I would appreciate any insight from more experienced players. TIA

Problem with disc priest is that the raid only needs one.

I did Disc Priest during original, and I loved it… there is much more than just spamming PWS tbh.

This round I am doing shammy and it is pretty fun but if I had to reroll – Disc Priest would be the way I’d go again.

May I ask the reason you would play Disc over your Shammy if you could reroll?

Idk – Just feel like the Priest was more fun, easier to gear (though I know I don’t have to stay w/mail armor), Penance is the bomb, mana regen was really nice (shammy’s has been a lot more difficult to maintain). Don’t get me wrong, my shammy is fun but disc is where I want to go back to (until Blizzards screws with it and makes it some crappy hybrid dps/heal thing).

Shamans have the same problem, You’d only need one, and honestly only really for BL, which you can get from Enh or Ele shamans.
