I started Resto in Shadowlands and have mained it since, love the slower play style.
How has Resto changed through the years for long term mains. Has it remained at a similar speed like it has the previous 2 expansions? Or was there a time where it was spammy?
Hmmm, what do you mean by spammy vs slow?. I assume you are talking about that totemic casts chain heals for you?. For me I recall being a chain heal totems bot, with a riptide here and there, back when chain heal was a very loud yellow beam lol. The good ol’ WotLK days. I’d classify it as spammy in those days dunno?
Spammy like Disc or Resto Druid, really quick or high haste instant casts. Rsham to me has always been a slower option, so I’m interested in how it has been through WoW’s lifespan.
R sham has never been built around instant casts
I mained Resto since TBC and it changed alot over time. It use to be as spammy as any other healer class and go through using different ranks of same healing spells for min/max efficiency.
TWW Totemic is among easiest of what Ive seen it but it depends what content you do. Especially before TWW, massive difference between lets say M+ healing and mythic raid healing. End bosses in mythic raids still required a high cast per minute healing style. Always keeping Riptide off CD and weaving in Healing Waves, Chain Heals, Unleash Life, Wellsprings, Healing Rain Casts every 10s, etc… Content like M+ and Normal/Heroic raiding has always required a lower cast per minute healing style since aoe/rot damage ramps aren’t as frequent then lets say something like the last few mythic bosses of a raid.
I find Resto druid most annoying to play but I love healing on Disc priest so it’s situational to each their own I guess.
Not a long-term main but I’ve often leveled a resto shaman alt since TBC (usually have a max level of every healing class in most expansions except vanilla I only had a 60 priest and lots of lower level alts).
They cast chain heal quite frequently in a lot of versions of the game I believe, especially back when raiding was the only end-game content available.
I think Totemic is the first time since healing rain was added to the game that it hasn’t felt annoying to manage. I wish they’d learn from that and at least make it instant cast for Farseer, even if you don’t get the double duration QoL.
I kind of miss some the oldschool utility totems that are either PvP now or have cooldowns or are less often useful or require more precise timing to be useful now. IE: grounding totem was neat, tremor and cleansing totems used to not have cooldowns. When tremor was first given a cooldown, it was castable during CC as a CC break, which I think makes more sense for a cooldown version. Resto shaman already have the best ranged interrupt of any healer but having that + grounding totem would be amazing in M+.
