Resto sham Surging Totem Changes

Can someone point me to why this totem no longer recasts healing rain and instead just casts it for 24 seconds once? :frowning:

Didn’t realize that change happened and am not finding anything in notes in Wowhead

Thanks :')

That happened in the beta awhile ago.

Basically the random targeting of how it worked previously was unreliable and led to situations where your healing rain could proc on a ranged dps standing out in timbuktu, which would greatly lower your healing and damage as your acid rain wouldn’t be centered on the mobs.

The way it currently works, you can still move your surging totem around with totemic projection, and you get to choose where to drop it which means you can always hit the greatest number of allies / enemies.

Sigh. Fair enough. Not gonna lie, when I first saw it I thought “wow I wonder how the devs implemented this to be most effective!” lol

10s cd on moving totems isn’t terrible. For whatever reason I confused that with totemtic recall which is minutes and I was like nooooo

I’ll make do with that. Thanks!

It would be nice if you didn’t have to spec into totemic projection for the hero spec to function.

They could have made surging totem a choice talent between two different versions as they do for some abilities. One as it is now for more precise control and the old version for people who’d rather just drop it and not care.

The best solution would have had it function like vesper totem where you can move it around with the same keybind. But then they added downpour on top of it which I actually thought was a good change but it would interfere with using the same key for movement.

Ideally, Blizzard could just have the spell itself cycle between Surging Totem > Downpour > Move totem.

Technically, it’s possible to macro Totemic Projection on Surging Totem, but it completely bugs out Downpour and locks it out from being cast if you do that, so that is out of the window, and you must manually keybind TP separately unless you don’t want to use Downpour.
