Hey guys I will keep this short and simple. I need some Resto tips. My gear is ok yet I still struggle like Tupac when it comes to burst healing or keeping people alive in heavy DPS phases on even low mythics. What do you guys do to survive? I believe it might be my crappy essences but do they really make THAT much of a difference?
If you haven’t done the emmissary from yesterday yet, I would to get yourself a caster weapon, that alone should help a lot
I had honestly forgotten to swap that since I used to run feral o.0 haha thanks for pointing that out!
It honestly depends what you want to do, and your personal play style.
M+ spec with differ from your raid spec. Stat priority also will slightly change. In my opinion if you’d like a good starting point, start building up your mastery, followed by haste. As you become more comfortable in your skills, and more and more familiar with your toon, start playing into some Crit stacking.
Wowhead has a very good beginners guide which I believe may assist in getting you where you need to be!
Hopefully that helps you out!
I really can’t stress enough the power of Photosynthesis. It is so flexible, and offers consistent, low GCD cost healing. It should be your default choice for m+.
Heavy group dmg as follows:
-
Wild growth
-
Lifebloom (on you and maintain it on you through out the duration group healing)
DECISION IF healing is still needed:
? Is the whole party in danger of dying in the next GCD or two? > Tranquility if available. This can be cast before anything if the whole is in extreme danger. However, If you have the time to cast wild growth and it’s available, doing so prior to tranq will push more healing to the group.
? Is a single party member in danger of dying in the next GCD or two? > Swiftmend
? Is a single party member in danger of dying and considerably lower than the rest of the group? > Regrowth until the target is even with the group. This is situational to the relative health of the group and the target’s health relative to the group. Don’t spam Regrowth on a DPS if it’s at the sacrifice of needed tank, healer(you), or group healing. One DPS down is better than a wipe. We can’t always save everyone.
? Is efflorescence down? > put Efflorescence down (it should have already been down!)
- Rejuve remaining party members who still need health.
Repeat the above conditionally until your group is healthy.
This faux order of operation/priority system will keep your group alive provided you’re gear is capable of it, and if your group doesn’t stand in things they aren’t supposed to. The game tries to kill people for being where they shouldn’t. This is intended; personal responsibility. However, no one is perfect, take mistakes with a grain of salt and heal them.
Couple of notes about the above:
- keep efflorescence down, this will start you a global and stack of mastery ahead.
- Iron Bark can be used on a party member that is taking heavy dmg or will take spiky dmg however, I really try to use this last in hopes to have it for the the tank. Don’t hesitate to use it to save someone.
- Swiftmend I also try to keep available for the tank, though it will have to go out in the same way to keep the someone alive.
- Cenarion Ward, same, I try to use this for the tank, though don’t hesitate to use it, keeping mind that it takes dmg to proc the heal.
- Tranquility; try not to rely on it as your only source of heavy group healing, it should be a super emergency button. Forcing your mastery to do work by getting the group hot’d is key to sustained group healing.
A note on tank healing:
KEEP Lifebloom on them, or anyone taking significant dmg provided the tank is stable.
Just default to Cenarion Ward, and pick up as many Grove Tending traits as possible(three preferably). This nets you the ability to consistently deal with heavy tank damage(or ST damage). Spreading out Iron Bark, Cenarion Ward, and Swiftmend (with grove tending traits) through the duration of a big pull of just having them on hand for heavy ST will keep your tank/group in a good place.
In the end of the day, we need be ready and willing to throw our entire kit at the group to keep people alive, even through mistakes.
Happy Healing Fren:)
Dang it, essences! Yeah, they do offer throughput in several ways, they shouldn’t be make or break. Resto has a strong healing kit, just requires some setup, as roughly described above.
I highly recommend questionably epic for resto druid info.
I personally don’t use essences much to increase my healing and take mostly dps essences since I find the healing kit generally strong enough regardless.
A lot of beginner Resto Druids struggle with burst damage. It’s a weakness in our spec by design. Fortunately, with a little knowledge of the fights, you can (almost) completely overcome it.
The basic strategy is to have your HoTs in place before the $hit hits the fan. Those heavy damage phases you mentioned? Those are almost always telegraphed. Maybe the boss has an energy bar, and it attacks when the bar is full. Maybe the big damage ability has a long cast time, or is always cast right after another ability. Maybe the boss just casts its ability on a cool down, and add-ons like DBM or Bigwigs will show you a timer. Before the big damage hits, have Rejuv rolling on whoever you expect to take damage. Put an Efflorescence under the tank/melee group if it’s not already. When the damage hits, Wild Growth (I guess I’m assuming here that you’re struggling when multiple targets are taking damage), and spot heal with Regrowth as necessary.
That’s the basic strategy. If the incoming damage is really serious, plan to use a cool down as well. We have Tranquility baseline, and can talent into Tree of Life and/or Flourish.
If you’re doing all that, and still struggling, your group may not be handling mechanics correctly. The in-game dungeon journal has descriptions of all boss abilities, so it you’re struggling with one thing in particular, that’s a resource you can access without ever leaving the game. If you’re looking for something more comprehensive (including trash abilities), there are all kinds online resources. Wowhead is generally pretty good if you don’t already have a favorite.
Good luck! Resto Druid is a super fun and rewarding spec, so keep working at it. You’ll get there. =)
That was awesome advice thanks so much guys! I’ve been Feral my entire life so this is really fun getting into.
Ah man your post was amazingly helpful. I actually swapped off Photosynthesis but I think I will bring it back. Now that I have Vhudoo setup it should be easier to take advantage of it.
