Resto Druid: Moonkin or cat Weave?

Hey all,

Having fun with my new Resto Druid, but can’t seem to decide between cat and Moonkin spec. I can easily switch between the two, but was curious what you pros feel is the best for non-trivial content (M5+, raids).

Moonkin: ranged dps, utility in cyclone and vortex. Adds 5 yards to range.

Cat: 15% speed boost and 35% regen on mana. Meele dps.

Been playing both, and the movement speed on cat is so nice. Gets me out of trouble. Word on icy veins is Moonkin is better, due to Convoke, which I can see, but I mostly use that for healing burst.

Any thoughts?

I’ve done both… for soloing Torghast I prefer Feral Affinity, WQs, Dungeons etc Balance

You mean the Affinity talents?
I always go kitty on my Resto druids.
Lots of mana free DPS.

Yes the affinity talents.

Bear sounds ultra survivable. I didn’t list it, but it’s an option.

I’m finding I don’t have a ton of time to sit in the alt-form…usually just enough to get in some rip shred x5 and get a big bleed going before the tank is dying, or the dps ate a mechanic :grinning:

Unless healing isn’t needed at all, I can’t see getting full use out of Moonkin eclipse etc

I used to love Balance but something theyve changed about it makes it feel really wonky to me now.
As far as the form swaps, I use macros that arent going to do max DPS, but make it so I can swap forms and attack pretty well in kitty form good enough for solo play and grouped for the bigger baddies around the map.

Like this one swaps into kitty form and keep pounding it to run thru a half decent rotation…

#showtooltip
/cleartarget
/targetenemy [noharm]
/cast [noform:2] Cat Form
/castsequence reset=2 Rake, Shred, Shred, Ferocious Bite, Shred, Shred, Ferocious Bite

And then back to normal form to fire off sunfire/moonfire…

#showtooltip
/cancelform
/cleartarget
/targetenemy [no harm]
/castsequence reset=1 Sunfire, Moonfire

For bear form I only use Swipe to hit small mobs.

#showtooltip
/cleartarget
/targetenemy [noharm]
/cast [noform:1] Bear Form
/castsequence reset=1 Swipe

the reset isnt needed in the last one. I keep it there in case I want to add something to the /castsequence later
