I am a healer main, but have not played resto druid that much over the years–just here and there. I also played other healers throughout SL and now see that Resto Druid is looking to be S tier at the start of DF.
That the case, I am wondering how to really max out your damage in M+. It used to be that you would kitty weave for big damage, but on Yumy’s stream he seemed to say that that is no longer the case–or at least not in his eyes.
Clarification on this from some of the veteran resto druids would rock. And also on the specifics of how to really pump big damage would be awesome.
Thanks in advance for any guidance, tips or thoughts on this.
I wouldnt call it pumping big dps. Its just a constistent stream of dps from dots combined with adaptive swarm. Pretty basic of keeping rip, rake, moonfire, sunfire up on targets and just spamming swipe outside of that in aoe. Feral will always do more dps than boomkin simply based on dots doing more dmg with swarm applied to targets.
level 70 talents will open up windows for big damage, so it’ll come in time
having protector of the pack + nature’s vigil is a very nice boost to our dps, with minimal effort
(if you want to play this way ofc, the other talent paths are viable as well, such as improved roar, skull bash and typhoon, just not as good for dps focused builds on most weeks)
When people actually start doing keys in dragonflight they will realize caster>cat. Almost all your overall dmg in keys comes from sunfire either way. You won’t have the luxury to have tons of time swapping forms and getting into mele to apply bleeds when your entire group is taking gigga dmg with the 40% change. You get 95% as much dmg sticking in caster form, sunfire and starfire spamming, not having to waste 2 globals to get in and back out of form to heal.
Moonkin form also takes two globals, and if you have the downtime to spam Starfire, you can also go cat and apply bleeds that synergize with Circle & Swarm for more damage per global instead
Fun fact for anyone who didn’t notice this, but because of what Nikmodruid said, you can deshift mid-convoke if you’re in cat or boomy but want to move to a more healing-focused convoke form halfway through. It’s basically an aura cancel to shift out of a form back to humanoid and does not interrupt the cast.
