Balance would utilize many of the same stats and gear better than feral would, so that would probably be my choice
Balance for sure. Aoe pulling everything with Sunfire feels great and is highly efficient.
What about guardian?
It is not as easy to switch between Guardian and Resto as it is Balance and Resto because Balance + Resto both use INT and use the same weapons and some trinkets translate 100%. Also Balance will do more DPS and clear out WQ mobs faster.
Most of the time I just stay in resto. I have pvp on and master shapeshifter which gives me plenty of damage to kill mobs. Unless I get attacked by like 3 people at once no one can kill a resto druid so it works out fine.
Feral affinity is plenty for me
Bear is very solid for open world content if you’re a low item level. Once you get probably 370ish or higher balance becomes much more efficient.
Balance is pretty sturdy with gear but as a Guardian Druid you can pull everything in sight without fear of dying. The single target is a bit lacking but the AoE is pretty insane. I only use Guardian for solo play so I’m full of DPS traits.
Resto with Feral Affinity is more than equal to any world content, and it’s a really fun play style too. I actually prefer it to either DPS spec for soloing.
As easy as it is to change specs anytime you’re out of combat, there’s no reason to solo as a healer. You can (nothing in the overworld is especially threatening short of an elite with more than 10x the health of everything around it), but you can also just run a DPS or tank spec and actually get the job done before you die of old age.
I read something earlier today about people running around as Resto with Feral Affinity and I was intrigued, I usually go Guardian Affinity for the damage reduction in PvP. I tried it out today and I’m pleasantly surprised as how will it works. the +15% move speed is nice, and I feel like some sort of melee affliction lock in a way (Putting up 4 dots on big bad elites and healing myself). So far my survivability, killspeed, and enjoyment have improved.
Boomkin wasn’t for me, I just didn’t enjoy it. I used to run around as Guardian offspec, jsut swap a weapon and trinkets, and swipe/thrash everything to death, but it took forever.
I personally run Feral affinity with Restoration in the open world, I’ll also stack a couple of the more generic Feral traits if I’m wanting a bit more damage and am not overly concerned with raw healing output. Which is usually the case for a lot of open world and older content.
Fun fact, Blood Mist procs even in Resto giving you free Berserk without the inbuilt drawback of the traits proc being wasted if Berserk is up (since you don’t actually have access to the Berserk CD). I found that pretty decent for situations in which you have high uptime in cat form (such as soloing Legion raids).
I to think it runs pretty smoothly. You can just HoT yourself up and go to town in cat, dipping out for Sunfires and HoT reapplication if needed before jumping straight back into cat. It’s even better if you have Warmode active with Master Shapeshifter.
Same. Throw lifebloom and rejuv up. Drop a sunfire and moofire pull. Go kitty and make them bleed. Reapply HoTs and DoTs as needed until things die. Absolute worse case scenario, and you aggro too much, go bear and swipe spam instead of using kitty bleeds. Keep HoTs up and win.
Should definitely rock feral affinity for pvp. The dps you can pull is really strong and puts a ton of pressure on the other team.
I’ve been playing Resto for quite some time, and I can tell you from experience that there is nothing wrong with going resto for solo content. I do everything as resto. From Wpvp, Arenas, mythic+, raids, and open world content. Obviously I switch my talents around depending on content, but for open world content resto is fine. I would suggest running Feral Afinity, along with Master Shapeshifter (pvp talent), AND thorns. You really shine with those three, aslong as WM is turned on. I can pull 15-20 mobs at once as resto, drop Efflouresence down, a few hots on myself, pop thorns, go into cat, and just cleave away, all the while thorns does the work for me. And if I ever get low on hp, I just swiftmend, Regrowth, and I’m full hp again. I’ve seen my 5CP bites hit for 65k crits in open world pvp, which is honestly just silly for a healer. I’ve also applied those same numbers to other people while pvping.
Casual boomkin raider/resto mythic+ player here. Stayed in resto for my last couple days of world content.
I’d say Boomkin is slightly faster, but resto with feral affinity is strong. At 408 ilvl on rares in Boomkin, I hit about 15-20k dps casually. As resto I hit 10-12kdps casually but with the bonus of never really being in danger of dying (even when ganked by most classes). Since a bunch of your time doing solo world content is moving from place to place, this really isn’t much of a difference in overall time taken to run through dailies, etc.
Either is viable and fun for world solo content imo.
You can solo open world as Resto pretty easy.
Actually I find the game play pretty fun and interactive - making choices about what form you switch to, shapeshifting within a fight as types of CDs to meet the situational needs, etc…
Drop your fire dots, put self heal dot or 2 up, drop to feral build to 3/4 and bite (or on tougher single target bleed and stitch to bear while energy regens and repeat).
You won’t be doing huge AoE on large packs, but in small numbers its pretty easy and more of a rotation than 2 spell spam.
