So I’ve decided to main resto but its leveling is unbelievable slow so I was going to take balance as a secondary spec to at least level and maybe use when I dont feel like healing. Is balance and resto a good combo in that i wont have much gear swapping to do? And with azerite traits should I stick with resto oriented ones or go half and half or just switch out everytime?
I main Resto and use Balance for WQ’s and the odd M+ when I’m not healing. I would say for leveling, just get the best traits for balance. Once you are 120 you will get an influx of azerite gear from WQ’s, dungeons, and raids that you can make multiple sets. For instance, I have a Resto Raid set, Resto M+ set, Balance Set, Feral set, and guardian set. All different azerite pieces.
tl:dr, use the balance traits for leveling. You can still heal normal dungeons as resto without the appropriate traits.
Yeah, currently you can freely switch between specs so there’s in terms of talents there’s no longer any limitation there, only from gear I guess for which I’d also say that you take the Balance traits for leveling.
On a side note, prioritize azerite pieces that have “Vampiric Seed” over anything else for leveling, it’s one of those inner-ring traits common across all classes that people tend to overlook but it’s by far the strongest trait you can get for leveling (for a DPS spec at least).
I leveled an Elemental Shaman last week (which is considered super weak) and that trait alone allowed me to do really big pulls (8 to 10 mobs) and AOE them down. You can do that even easier with Boomy.
If you’re finding Resto too slow, you’re not pulling enough things! Tanks and healers take longer to kill individual mobs, but can make up the difference by pulling large groups. At 110, you should be able to pull pretty much everything in sight, DoT 'em up, and keep yourself healed/Swipe spam while they all die. By 119-120, you might have to dial it back to 3 or 4 things, but as you gear up, you can start pulling really big again.
