Rested XP, Whats the point?

Just returned home from 3 weeks at work and was excited to get into the new xpak. Fully rested and ready to power through them levels and do some dungeons etc only to find out i still need to clear 2 zones due to rested xp to get into so good content. So as the title suggests, what is the point of rested xp if it gives no actual advantage?

You can build 2x xp on certain stuff for up to 2 lvls. (10 days of logging off in a rested area). So theoretically if you take your time you can lvl faster then most people with /timeplayed. This is to encourage you taking your time. As before they used to give negative xp gains with the (tired) debuff.

I understand that but what is the point of leveling faster per time played if you cannot access anything because you still have to clear more zones. Like right now i cannot even queue for a dungeon because my ilvl is too low which i am guessing is because of the rested xp buff and i have not got all them nice blues at the end of each quest line in every zone. So now i am stuck continuing to do the quests i would have had to do if i did not have rested xp.

This has absolutely nothing to do with rested XP. Get a higher ilevel.

… what? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

This didn’t exist in live or as an actual debuff.

In the beta version of the original game, rest did not exist and experience was designed to prevent players from playing more than a few hours in a row. Experience gained was divided by 50% after few hours. However, beta-testers did not like it and rest was implemented, giving instead 200% of experience for few hours, which Blizzard’s developers later reported as being the “same numbers seen from the opposite point of view”.

Been there and yes it does not makes sense at all why you have to do four zones to get to end game stuff. They really want you to do the story. Without rested exp, i finished at 60 just into the second zone. Good news alts can skip.

Just chalk it up to Ion revenge on all the complaints he is getting about the game.

I have hit 60 and can no longer queue for dungeons because my ilvl is too low thus being forced to finish the campaign (which isnt the issue) to try and get a high enough ilvl to queue for dungeons. Basically what im saying is due to rested xp i have leveled faster than the content intended and now i can only quest for or buy items to get my ilvl high enough to do normal dungeons.

That’s an ilevel issue, not a rested experience issue. Buy the 151 crafted gear. You’ll have to anyway. Questing never gave me the ilevel to run dungeons.

You must finish the campaign regardless.

Incorrect. I hit 60 in Ardenweald on one character without any rested XP and hit 60 at the beginning of Revendreth on another character without rested XP. And Blizz screwed something up, because even quest gear doesn’t get you the ilevel for the dungeons.

The rested XP did not screw you over.

Wasn’t it at the beginning of Legion we were getting rested honor, and we were all, W.T.F???

I think Staats mentioned in his book that players liked it a lot more when they renamed the 50% xp tier to “normal” and the 100%, or full xp tier to “rested”. The idea just needed to be marketed to players better.

To reward players for logging in and continuing to level perhaps?
