I'm going back and forth trying to figure out what class I want to roll once classic arrives. I am and will be a casual player only. I enjoy healing, however I will also quest and grind for gold.
I want to play a healer, however I absolutely do not want to try grinding and questing/solo play in a healing spec. Would you say rolling a healer would be a bad idea for me? I don't quite remember how tough respeccing is with the gold available during classic.... but I'm thinking for a casual player it may be a little too much.
Thoughts?

Druid, Paladin, and Shaman are all very capable healers when you have the right gear for it.
They are also easy to level according to the forums, and a lot of people like them. I hear they are also very good for PVE world content (solo), and have seen them as very capable in PVP if you're interested in PVP.
No its not to much. It starts off very cheap and only after several respecs does it get up to I think 50. That is intended to be high, and that should not change.
Typically feral is one of the fastest leveling classes, it does decent healing, and will prob have the best dps of any healer without a respec. Only problem is no OoC rez for dungeons.
I wouldn't mind if it was a bit cheaper (maybe capping at 25 rather than 50), but totally removing it would be too much.
It's not terrible leveling a healer IMO. Pally is a bear to level. But a shadow priest (as i recall) and especially a feral druid are great farmers and levelers. I think it caps at 50g but i'm not sure if it goes down the longer you wait between respecs or if it scales up to 50 and then stays there.
Respect is cost prohibitive. Maxes at 50g and that’s a lot.
You can always try playing dps spec, refill to healer at 60. All healers are ok pre 60 even in dps spec.

I have no problem playing the DPS specs (priest, shaman). But I'm pretty sure my respecs will outweigh the decay. My concern is being stuck (at max level) making the decision to grind/quest in healing spec vs respecting to DPS to do that, and then having to respec back to fill the healer roll in pve.

Ultimately yes, if you are 60 and have already respecced multiple times and want to grind in DPS spec it will not be cost effective to front the 50g ever time you want to solo grind. That 50g respec essentially makes it semi permanent to choose a new spec.
If you want to be healing spec at 60 but want the ability to grind as effectively as if you were DPS spec, I suggest you just grind with a dps friend.
While leveling you can heal dungeons as a DPS spec as long as you keep gear handy for it. And then at 60 it’s only 1g to respec the first time if you want to be a healer.
A good solution for making money as a healer is to pick professions that do not require that you fight. Herbalism and Alchemy for example.
If you have a Warrior friend, you can also make an effective farming duo as a healer.

When I leveled my druid, I leveled as feral, but I had no problem healing any dungeons while leveling.
There are at least a couple of alternatives to constant respeccing, even at level cap.
You can remain heal spec and group with a friend or guild mate for "grinding/questing" or you could even level a DPS alt to use for farming.
Just level as a dps, you should have zero problem healing dungeons that arent 60. When you hit 60 and want to Raid/heal or whatever, respec then.
I respecced fairly requently, but usually hung out in 0/30/21, which was a spec that could PVP, solo, dungeon heal, and raid without too much trouble.
There are equivalent specs for other classes I'm sure. Unlike in modern WoW, hybrid specs (in the sense of 'points in more than one tree') were absolutely a thing, and you could create a spec that would be more than sufficient for casual play in multiple areas of the game.

Pretty sure the costs per respec are
1
5
10
15
20
...
50
And I believe it was every month without a respec would drop 5g with the minimum being 10 or 15g
Would be nice if it was 2 weeks for decay instead of a month but whatever.

I know as a priest you can heal 5mans all the way up into BRD as shadow so it's not hard at all to level up. Can't say for certain of the other healers - shaman, druid, paly.
At 60 though yea the respecs do get a bit rough. I know myself and others simply leveled up a hunter as a farm/gold/mats character.
Yea that is going to get expensive fast. I think I'll have to go with 2 different characters.
Although, I do remember disc priests being able to kick !@# in one expansion.... that wasn't classic though.

respec fee should be increased and have no cap

If I recall (Someone feel free to correct me) first respec started somewhere in the silvers. Then when it was 1g afterwards it was 1.25g or so. Honestly I'd have to look but at the same time...I'm not going to waste gold just to find out.

I thought it was 1s or something for the first respec too but when i looked into it everything i found said it started at 1g

It needs to be high. Heck, they should raise it by 50 gold every time someone starts a thread on the subject.
