Resources for buying computer parts

Hello all.

I’m looking to build my own computer. This week be my first time doing this and I’m already nervous. I need help with looking for the parts and what will work best.

I know I can buy this stuff on Amazon and other places but I can also buy them wholesale from China. I need to know what to get and/or what week work best based on my budget. Does anyone know of any resources where I can find this information so that I can get a list of the recommended parts and their prices? I know that certain parts work better together than others so I want to buy the right stuff. I’m new to this and I don’t want to screw it up. Thanks

pcpartpicker.com is a good way to plan your build. Their listings aren’t always show the best values, but it’s close. Helps with compatibility, also.

If you need help picking out parts, you can give us some specifics here (use case, budget, what you already have) and we could help too.

logical increments tier lists
Tomshardware CPU & GPU hierarchy list
anandtech best gaming CPU & GPU lists
PCgamer best of lists
PCgamesn best of lists
just to name a few

Make a list of what you want to do with your with your PC and what performance level you will like.
Then make an upgrade plan be it a year or a whole new build ten years down the line.
Find the parts that offer you the performance you want with the upgrade ability you want through the sites above. See if those parts are within your budget, if they are go ahead and build. If they don’t match your budget than you need to lower your performance desire and/or upgrade path.

Anything else and you are building somebody else’s PC and not your PC.

Thank you both.

I’m thinking about a budget of 400. I’d on the low end but I am able to buy wholesale parts so it may work out. Then again there are so many options that maybe buying from another website like Amazon or something with help with narrowing my choices.

It’s really just going to be for Wow and maybe some other games. I’ve yet to play Dragon Age: Inquisition lol. I’m not looking for a top tier ultra performance but I’ve been playing this game since 08 on laptop and then regular computers and I’m over it. The first time I was able to raid lagess was in Legion with around 11 frames max in raids and 25-30 in low population areas, with the the graphics at 1. I’d like to play at 5 or 6 with be able to keep decent frames.

it’s a limited budget, you would be looking at Hokushin’s $400 build which will also be able to handle DA Inquisition at very good settings

I’ve been meaning to watch that too. I just want to make sure I’m getting all the right stuff because I’m so new to this.

Big Head is good especially for this topic. I’d advise you look at the channel.

I will do so. Thank you.

I’m planning on using this in my room and the ethernet connection is downstairs. Would you recommend using a motherboard with wifi or will that greatly affect the game play?
