Are you looking for the right dragon? On any given day, only one of the four will spawn, and which one is up today shows up on the map (zoom out to continent or world scale and hover the world boss icons).
If you just follow the quest marker for The Originals, you’ll be pointed at the nearest Dragon of Nightmare spawn, which may not (probably is not) today’s valid spawn, and you can hang around forever waiting for a dragon that won’t spawn today.
In other words, the quest objective pointer is probably wrong. Look at the map instead.

The quest marker will be wrong if the closest isn’t today’s spawn point. The quest doesn’t know anything about the rotation of Nightmare Dragons and just points you at the nearest one.
And the bunch of people were fooled just like you.
Look at the world map and find the world boss indicator that says the name of one of the Nightmare Dragons, and that’s where you have to go.
Today, it’s Ysondre in northern Feralas. I bet you weren’t in northern Feralas, were you?

Yup, not the spawnpoint for that day.
If there’s a bug, it’s the brainless behavior of the quest indicator. But don’t rely on that. Look at the world map to find the spawn of the day.
