Simple solution to everything. Resilience.
Bring back resilience in place of versatility.
Resilience i feel was the best part of pvp back in the day. Being super tanky was fun for new plays especially cause u could make a mistake and still live long enough to feel like u could play your character.
Just my opinion. Curious to hear what everyone else thinks about just adding resilience back on pvp gear?
I know what ion said but hes wrong. Most players will always have two sets of gear for pvp and pve. Its just the way it is.

I think I might prefer a system where we have templates with adjustable stat combinations and the PvP vendor would sell transmog gear but failing that i’d like to just have MoP style PvP Resilience back.

My personal opinion on stat templates is while it was nice having everything balanced by the template i feel like it took away my ability to customize my character or took my desire away to want to get any gear cause ultimately it didnt matter.
I still want that desire to get gear. I want to farm resilience gear and make my self tankier as i get more gear.
Templates i never cared what gear i had. Just throw on highest ilvl and go.
Resilience was fun yet not broken. Someone with good gear from raiding could still hit u hard. The only issue with resilience was someone that farmed the whole set could not perform in pve. Which id argue that most pvpers just play the game for pvp anyway.
But this is just all
My options to each his own i guess

I would be happy with a hybrid between a template system, and a gearing system.
Make your gear contribute to only 50% of your stats. The other 50% is something predetermined. Percentages might have to change. Maybe 33/66 if 50/50 is still too much scaling.
That or…
There is a baseline iLVL that your gear will scale 50% towards in pvp. Let’s say it’s around 180 baseline for everyone. If you have 200 ilvl, it will scale you back 50% towards the 180. So you’ll be at 190 ilvl. If you’re at 140 ilvl you’ll move half way towards the 180, so you’ll be at 160. None of this faking damage.
We do need some kind of scaling system, as long as it’s easy to figure out, and we have some amount of stat control. When I logged in with all purple feral druid from 2018 a few weeks ago, everyone had 2-3x my HP, and did 3 as my damage. Everyone wants to go back to the days of WotLK, but those days there was not such a massive gear gap. Maybe a guy in high end purples had 60% more HP than you, but not 200% more like today.
but but but what if timmy gets a really cool new trinket from his raid and wants to go kill people with it in a bg until he gets bored and goes back to raiding for another year and he can’t cuz he didn’t farm a pvp set first and now instead of him rolling kids with his raid gear he’s the one getting rolled and he then complains on the bg forums that he can’t jump right into the side content he wants to mess around with because of resilience? You ever think of that huh? Cuz sadly that’s exactly how we got to where we are right now.

I do think resilience created some very real problems. BC was seriously handicapped in terms of spec diversity in large part because Vanilla created a number of specs highly reliant on crit damage that essentially got neutered with the way resil functioned.
Specs like SL/SL lock were insanely dominant in-part because of the lack of counterspecs that you could create given constraints with resilience. Not saying resilience was all bad but do think better options have existed in the past.
you guys keep using customization as a retort for templates except everyone uses haste vers and a few mastery vers. so much customization huh. i didnt play WoD but people keep saying gear scaling from WoD was good. but on the beta it takes the gear you are wearing and boosts its ilvl. thats a system i can get behind i dunno if that is how wod was or not

The main problem with the system currently in the beta is that the vendors don’t offer the stats we need. Some classes have more Vers than others but no one has a full set of Vers PvP gear, let alone Vers/Haste. That and the absurd amount of time it would take to fully upgrade your honor set alone.
Blizzard clearly wants geared PvEers to be able to step over into PvP and still feel similarly OP.
Their design goal is significantly different from ours.

This is interesting. Stat budgeting and all. I remember preferring Resilience over PvP power because it allowed for customization through PvE gear (e.g., dropping some resil for better damage), but we did see larger class/spec diversity in Cata. I do wonder how much was a product of class homogenization versus lacking the stats necessary to compete.
the vendors never did pvp stat and pvp set bonuses made it so it didnt matter.
Ah man ya.
If we got back pvp set bonuses and the two pvp trinket bonus damage to players man that would be incredible.
also secondary carried much less weight back then. everyone used to gem main stat but now dots are hasted, cooldowns are hasted, autos are hasted and it has a resource generation increase for tons of spec. haste triple dips and sometimes quadruple dips and thats why almost everyone stacks haste and vers is just a poor mans resil. hence why almost every single spec in the game stacks haste vers in pvp. i would love a pvp stat but vers would have to go. id like to see % armor pen replace it instead of the flat pen we had before so it would do its job against heavier armor but not hit clothies like they werent wearing gear
Templates were equally bad when they tried it in Legion. This is ultimately a gear-based game. I want my progression to impact my power.

Isn’t Versatility an evolved version of Resillience? pretty sure it is.
It’s Resilience but rated E for Everyone. I wouldn’t even mind it so much if I could just get a full vers/haste set from the vendors but I guess that would be too difficult to implement.

Agreed with kori. I want my gear to impact my gameplay. I want it to feel good when i get an upgrade

I’m trying to stay positive. I think that the gear we seen in the vendors now are just placeholders and nothing more.
