I messed up and put all my points into the wrong area ( leather working ) is there a way to reset it? Or am I just out of luck?

No, there is not.
Since DF, professions have not started with any way to reset knowledge point allotments.
During TWW, the devs added a one-time spec change NPC, but it wasn’t part of the original design, and it was one time only for reasons that may not apply to Midnight.
No…and it sucks.
If you’re a leatherworker and didn’t spec into gainful gathering and trophy taker, you’re not going to be able to finish the skinning weekly this week….unless you’re willing to buy the peerless plumage. It’s insane.

you can still farm it, but it just super low on the drop chance, you are probably better off buying them and putting time into farming elsewhere
Super low is an understatement. 4 hours farming so far with a big fat zero drops. 
Yeah I had nothing for 3 days then I got them all in a 2 hr session last night. But was watching a streamer and they were getting like 4-6 plumes from pack pulls fairly regularly. BUT they were specced into gainful and trophy taker which increases the droprate.

They were simply not available 3 days ago. They only unlocked/fixed (whatever they did) with the Tuesday reset.
if that was the case then where did all the stuff on the AH come from this week? they were 100% dropping just in a very low drop rate unless you specifically specced into the talent that increases the drop chance. Prior to the Tuesday reset I was farming canines without issue. After the reset the drop rate fell completely. I was still getting them but 1 every few hours. They likely tweaked it but fact still remains, if you spec into it then the drop rates are pretty decent. Without speccing into it its still very low.
There are other places that it can come from besides skinning.
Also, the fact that they are rapidly dropping in price shows they are readily available.
I have two skinners. One is spec’d into trophy taker, the other has not.
Both of them were able to get enough plumage easily enough to finish the weekly quest.
I did the same thing. guides listed MM Hunter BIS as bracer/necklace so I dropped all my points into maxing that so I could craft it. Then they updated to boots/belt days later. Gonna suck having to pay to get my item crafted.

I didn’t even spend points yet in Tailoring. I just chose the specializations but I didn’t choose Nimble Needlework so I can’t make the bolts to make any recipe I can level with now.

They really should allow us to reset our knowledge tree once per expac, even if it was for a high cost

Or set the trees where a person isn’t punished for taking one path over another. Perhaps make it mandatory for all gathering professions to spec into a certain tree first as a base skill (like overall improvements in perception and skill level) and then give us the choice which trees to choose next.
Then again, it looks like this is going to be a lot like Dragonflight, where most materials tank in price very early on this expansion. On thing with TWW, mats, food, fish and crafted gear had good value for most of the expansion. Blizz really got it right last time, which makes it so disapointing to see things unravel so quickly this time.

it’s probably that YOU didn’t make a mistake, but blizzard and their knowledge point bugs made it so your profession path was made unprofitable because of bug abuser competition

I think if your new and just returning back to the game they should give us that same grace they gave players in TWW this way of professions is all new and a bit confusing for returning players that have not experienced this. another though blizz make it an option like a faction change or race change maybe not for that much money but some sort of option.

Yeah, this is infuriating. With systems where choices matter, there needs to be a reset button. I borked my tailoring out of my ability to progress it, and now my only option is to spend gold I don’t have or the one I chose, give up on my professions and pick something else.

They added a reset for both TWW and DF in 11.1, when DF professions weren’t relevant for most people anymore. So I’m hoping they continue that idea and add one for midnight, hopefully at the start of season 1.
If a blue could confirm this, that’d also be great.

What they NEED to do is reset EVERYONE to make sure and capture all those people that exploited and have double/triple the KP so we can mostly start from scratch and reset the market

I hate that you can’t, but it makes total sense for a game designed to make sure it drives you on month after month chasing one thing or another, one rep or another, and then that new one with its own currency, and then that fun new wrinkle (Abundance, Prey, etc).
Messed up? “Just keep farming those points!”
TBH - the changes to profs starting with DF have suc-ked. Used to be a straightforward fun side angle, now it’s an entire industry.
