I don’t know about you guys. But I think I would prefer people being upfront and reserving items while looking for a group. It’s a lot better than joining a group, no items res. Waiting for the group to form, then having the party leader message you with something like, “Hey do you need this item? Oh… you do?”
On the one hand, if theyre taking the time to form a group, and are relatively transparent about it, then its a reasonable requirement.
On the other hand, people are now ressing everything under the sun and its a big problem because PUGS take an hour to form because you really have to scrape to get people who want to come to a res run.
It goes against the spirit of the game, it’s selfish, anti-social behaviour and I don’t like it one bit. If you join my group, your contribution is appreciated and you can roll on upgrades, as will I.
Not much will come from my little drop in the ocean but it’s all I can do.
I am one of those weirdos that likes dungeons just because I like dungeons.
If I happen to need something, I would appreciate a warning that items are reserved before I get into the group and head over.
If I don’t need something, well, that’s okay because sometimes I just like killing things with other people, and it’s still nice to know so I can bring in friends/guild mates.
You are choosing the lesser of two evils in an attempt to justify a terrible practice.
Like others said i wont go with those groups.
It’s usually someone bad asking to have something reserved anyways. You know who im talking about, the 60’s who go to ZF and still wipe. That being said i often find it ok to “balance” group make up to diminish loot competition and give everyone an open roll on whatever drops if they need it.
I don’t personally have a problem with it as long as it is stated transparently and up-front. It’s the reward they get for forming the group (you can easily form your own, it doesn’t take that long).
That being said, when I form my own groups I just pick classes that won’t need the gear I need. If someone of the same class/armor type does want to come, I"ll just ask if they need what I’m after.
The problem is unless you reserve something you’re never guaranteed it. You could lose the roll on it 12 times in a row and watch 12 other players go away happy. I prefer to join groups with no other rogues and no druids (they claim feral and roll on my stuff) and then I generally am guaranteed the items I want when they drop, other than weapons (warriors might roll on them).
My standing policy is if you win the roll, you get the loot. People shouldn’t be able to reserve items.
I had this one guy plead with me to give him these shoulders if they dropped (eg. not roll on them and only he would roll). I told him my above policy, and he didn’t say anything after that.
People often hide reservations (especially with pug raids) because that makes it harder to form it in the first place. Naturally, most people that want to go there, are after the 1 thing they want to reserve. I may resort to reserving too, depending on how many times I lose the things I need, but I’d be up front about it. The starting plan is to only reserve LBRS gems. It’d be a last resort for everything else (meaning I’ve done the place dozens of times and lost a roll on an item 5 times, or something ridiculous like that).
That tends to work itself out. When you see someone trying to form a group with unreasonable reserves while other groups form and start eventually they give up and relax their reserves.
^This. If you want to farm specific items for yourself, do it in a group of all friends/guildmates. Forming a PUG and essentially making a group of strangers farm the item(s) just for you is rude af.
Context is important. If you are doing a run and the item you want that you reserved is only 10% into the dungeon. You bail after you get it. You did use a group of strangers to get what you want.
If you stick around and finish the rest of the boss kills the other players need, then I don’t see a problem with it.
If you know the loot table and the item you want is on a boss before what is reserved then joining wouldn’t be a problem if you also stick around. I wouldn’t join a group if that was inverted unless it is someone I have played with before and had a good experience.
Unless I suspect I’m going to be competing with multiple people for an upgrade and there are multiple in a dungeon for us I generally don’t see the point of trying to reserve items in a pug since the other players need it just as much.
Though that having been said, If I announce my intentions for an item, pass on multiple upgrades for a chance drop off the end boss and the person I passed loot on for still hits need I’m gonna be beyond pissed.
Right, and so its fair game regardless of the upgrade potential? Is MS=OS? What about less conventional builds like Arc Shot Hunters rolling on SPD?
Better question, if reserving is considered selfish and anti-social, then is rolling OS selfish and anti-social? Where do you draw the lines and what are the rules.
Because the lashback from ressing seems to stem mainly from the argument that people are excluded from those rewards in participation (a fair argument), while at the same time trying to enforce a set of requirements which by their nature, are exclusionary.
If we take the approach that we evenly distribute the loot regardless of capabilities or need, then were essentially playing WoW:Communism edition.
Item res group spammers have a major weakness: Over time people will simply stop joining out of pure principle. The only healers you’ll get will be the ones in greens, as most healers are in MC already.
There are way too many groups spamming for tanks now. This means that players need to form guilds and run MC instead of searching for single tanks for single pieces of loot only for yourself.
Classic progression is very cut and dry. You have to graduate into raids, otherwise you aren’t doing jack.
