They’d have to add additional dialog options to existing Zidormis, and add more Zidormis to deal with the rest of the zones.

Be a great time to also bring back the classic quests and zones.

They mean reuse zones to quest in them again.

its called CATACLYSIM… and its out right now … go have “fun”… but it wasn’t / isn’t fun…is it?

Compared to the previous expansion, WoTLK, it was horrible. But Wrath is considered the best expansion overall so it did have a lot to live up to. In the end, it was rushed out and just was bad…

Like Cata?

Always fun to discuss zone revamps. What’s your idea? :memo::robot:

I wouldn’t say Cata was rushed. iirc ICC & RS lasted about a year (patch 3.3 was Dec 2009, cata’s official launch was dec 2010). The problem with Cata is that Blizzard underestimated how time consuming doing the old world update would be, on top of providing actual expansion content (i.e. 80-85 content). Much like WoD later, Cata was too ambitious for the time. And that is clearly felt when there were some zones that saw little to no updates. Such as

Dustwallow Marsh
Silithus
Arathi Highlands (mainly for Alliance)
Elywnn Forest (outside of Northshire Abby, the rest of the zone is basically the same as vanilla with some minor changes. Such as enemy name changes, location changes or fate changes)

I guess you can also include Moonglade and Deadwind pass but neither of them had much content during vanilla anyway. The former saw some action during the Scepter of the Shifting Sands questline and the latter was basically “this is where Karazhan is”.

Alterac Mountains was merged with Hillsbrad for some reason but nothing was done with it. Horde have a flightpoint in Strahnbrad for some reason. Some zones just repeated the story from vanilla but in a new coat of paint. Such as Arathi Highlands for horde when it came to Stormgarde. Where you are once again trying to claim the weapon of the Trollsbane family but this time instead of doing it for a Troll, you are doing it for the newly reanimated Galen Trollbane.

Adding to this, some of the zones they did, mainly Westfall and Redridge Mountains were basically just overextended pop culture references. I like Westfalls story but I did not need a CSI: Miami reference every single quest. And the Cata original zones were not immune to this either. Originally there was going to be a questline in Uldum that would’ve fleshed out the Sunwalkers a lot more but that was cut and replaced with Harrison Jones the quest chain. Harrison Jones was a nice reference when he made cameos in TBC, Wrath and even early Cata as being the archaeology trainer in Stormwind but we did not need a massive zone spanning questline that is just endless references to the Indiana Jones original trilogy.

The update to the world old for Cata was to serve two purposes

  1. Make all of Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms (excluding the TBC zones) acceptable for flying. No more short cuts and the use of ‘smoke and mirrors’ in world design.
  2. Streamline the questing experience to better reflect TBCs and mainly Wraths.

I don’t like cata.

Maybe Sargeras is going to invade the old map, say he doesn’t like what cata does, and transform WoW to its original. And he become the GOD that he wished.

I loved Cata. It was my favorite expansion.

The heroics were great at release.
