Someone on Reddit has been posting the old world zones with new skyboxes. They look absolutely amazing and bring a breath of fresh air to the zones. Please consider updating these Blizzard.
Honestly I was kinda hoping, once Classic lands, they would remaster all the older zones, bring everything up in terms of looks and accessibility (like flight in silvermoon).
But I also know this would somehow cause some to go into riot mode.
The same way they updated water back in Cataclysm, I was hoping they’d update the skyboxes in BFA. Still hoping, really! It doesn’t seem like it’d be a huge effort, and it’d go a long way towards making older zones look nicer.
Plus, just think of what they could do with new skyboxes when it comes to weather patterns!
I thought that’s what “weather 2.0” was supposed to be, but I haven’t really noticed anything all that new yet. It does seem to rain again, in some places, but Stormwind is still devoid of any storms.
I’m sure they would love to do this also, but the amount of effort would be enormous, and I’m assuming it’s just not worth it to them right now. I’d prefer they go back and overhaul the entire leveling flow, jumping between expansions is clunky, especially for allied races.
Weather effects were updated in BfA, actually. Not only rain effect now appear when you are flying high (before 8.0 the rain would disappear if you distanced too much from the ground), I remember seeing stronger sand storms in Tanaris and heavy rain in Duskwood during prepatch. I just think it’s rare (Blizzard hasn’t changed the chance of it occuring, and we seldom go to those places to see it happening. Also, zones that didn’t have weather before still don’t have them.
They had a really cool lunar eclipse in the new warfront version of Darkshore in older builds on the PTR, but now they’ve reverted it back to a Vanilla sky box with the blocky procedurally genenerated clouds. I guess it’s so there’s a day-night cycle there instead of always being deepest night, but it’s a pretty big step back in my opinion.
