Reputation does many things and none of them would be at all hindered by making reputation account wide.
Reputation gives toys, pets and mounts, all of which are already account-wide.
Reputation gives gear, all of which is useless by the time you’ve acquired enough reputation to use it.
Reputation unlocks Allied Races, which again, are account-wide.
There is literally no downside to making it account-wide except for saving some grinding. I know Blizzard claims that some people enjoy building rep back up from nothing, but I genuinely don’t think those people exist. Or, if they do, they’re a tiny part of the playerbase.
We could even compromise and make reputation from “dead” expacs account-wide, while keeping current expac reputations as they are.
They won’t do this, because there wouldn’t be such a thing as “dailies” anymore since this would completely trivialize daily grinds depending on how many alts you have.
Well, there is the “downside” of it being totally illogical.
I have said it before and I really shouldn’t keep saying it but I persist because I’m…persistent.
There is zero logic in a level 1 toon turning up at a faction Quartermaster for a faction they have never met and being treated as an exalted being. It makes zero sense.
The game already caters for SO much account-wide, it has been dumbed down so far it’s almost flatlining. How about they leave in one thing you actually have to work for rather than handing it to you. I mean, they even have Timewalking now so that you can use your TW curency to buy rep.
I note I have no objection to aids that assist alts to get rep. I’d love to see a return of the item in MoP that you could get once Exalted that would give a huge boost to your alts. That’s fine, that’s even logical. But account-wide for no effort? No. Sorry. I agree with Blizzard in this instance, there still are some things you need to work for at least to some degree if you want them.
But as it stands, that character can use the exalted mount the second they learn riding.
I love this idea, assuming that it plays off of the highest level acquired by a player, not cumulative across all characters. That would be heavily exploited.
It’s important to barricade some reputations but I stipulate that the main problem with rep grinds is the locked factions for Allied Races.
I did all the work for Zandalari and Mag’har and won’t ever unlock Kul Tiran or Dark Iron unless I faction change. That’s simply the case for me.
It may not be a detrimental thing to my WoW experience, but it is a bit of a shame that I can’t just log onto what Alliance character I have and go do the unlock quest for the Alliance races.
I don’t think he means rep gains cumulative account wide…just the highest level. The only thing it would change would being able to buy the rep gear for your alts as soon as you reach max level, which means someone would actually get to use it. Cause yeah…everything exceptngear is account wide, and gear is always useless by the time you can use it on your main.
Yes, rep and achievements absolutely need to be account wide. Blizz is in the habit of buffing and nerfing classes on a whim, and complete gutting and changing classes altogether, forcing players to switch because they are no longer having fun with it. It’s long overdue.
Account-wide is overkill and ultimately bad for the game. More catch up mechanics are always great though, and I do wish they’d bring back the MoP commendation system. Also I think profession recipes at least should be account-wide, purchasable by everyone if you have one at exalted.
But full account-wide would remove an enormous amount of content. And as mentioned each character is a blank slate. They start at 1 and shouldn’t be exalted with people they haven’t met.
Hate rep grinds. Always have. I only grind rep on one toon since WoD.
Play the story through with that same toon and alts fly through the rest.
Don’t even bother with the useless crafting anymore.
Enchanting and alchemy.
With a gatherer alt.
I spend enough time playing 1 toon. I’m not going to do the same with a bunch of alts too.
Lets face it. You only need reps for Pathfinder, collecting toys, mounts, and if you’re into colkecting 3 levels of the same useless crafting recipes. LOL
So yea I would love account wide reps and achieves.
Now if it was actual engaging replayable content sure. Leave as is.
It’s not though. It’s just a grind that you’ve most likely already done at least once. LOL
Gotta keep those MAU’s up though lol
I think that would be an even worse reason to have it, honestly, allowing alts to just gear up with vendor items. I know the BfA faction rep gear is a bit low level, but it was likely just means for tramsmogs, and for people to maybe fill a slot they were unlucky at filling. I think I had the 350-purchased legwear on this char for a time.
It wouldn’t remove any content whatsoever. The quests would still have to be repeated but you only get the rep from them one time. And what’s the problem with buying exalted gear on an alt after you already put in the work once? The gear is obsolete the first time around anyway. Might as well make it worth something! The point is, when Blizz goes and changes something completely, making it no longer fun, the player shouldn’t be punished by having to start over from scratch on another character. Even if they did choose to stay with a particular class for the entirety of an xpac, the achievements should be represented on all chars. You see how this character appears to have like 4k achievements? It’s actually more like 23k.
The thing you should be asking for is not account wide rep. What you SHOULD be asking for is why for the love of all the holy’s did they stop panda account rep gain tokens and why did they nerf tabards?
The answer to that question is what gives the insight into how Blizz runs wow nowadays. And it’s disgusting.
I never understand these arguments - if rep is so useless and everything you get from rep is useless why do you even care ? Oh right it isn’t useless, you want ‘x’ reward or ‘x’ pattern.
There are people who enjoy the replay value of making new characters and having them earn their own stuff.
