Rewards/quartermaster items should be.
“We don’t have time to make reps account-wide” or “Some people want to re-grind rep on their alts” shouldn’t be excuses.
Just make the rewards/vendor items Bind on Account and call it a day. This isn’t hard.

You aren’t going to get account wide gear. All they would do is remove gear and profession items from rep and make you grind it elsewhere.
Everything should be account wide!
I don’t know man.
I kinda want account wide reputations.
Account-wide reputation will never happen.
Let’s take ZM as an example to illustrate why.
Repeat with as many alts as I have.
That’s why there will never be account-wide rep.
*** HOWEVER ***
We know that Blizzard can make vendors where the requirement to buy an item is an achievement.
Just change the vendors who sell items that “Requires Reputation: Exalted with X” to “Requires Achievement: Exalted with X”.
Achievements are account-wide.
Fixed.
Or bring back the items that increase rep gains for alts once you hit exalted with a faction.
They could do it where you have to reach a certain threshold first (eg. Exalted reps are shared). That’d give some of the benefit of shared reps without as much possibility for abuse. You could still use the early rep bonuses a lot of factions have to power through paragon reps but those could probably be left separate to limit that.
Alternatively, they could do a weird hybrid where each character still has their own bar but they can access rewards based on the highest rep you have. That’d completely prevent abusing the early rep bonuses but it wouldn’t really address the reason some people want shared reps (so they don’t have to grind all the way on one character).
I’m not convinced they’ll do any form of account-wide reps but I think there are possible solutions to the problem you presented, at least.
I did like the system they had in Mists, though you could buy those starting at Revered for some reason (I guess so it wasn’t completely useless for your main).
Why can’t rep be account wide? Cap rep gains, give a token when you reach it to consume when the cooldown on rep gains is done if you want to continue questing after rep cap for the day/week.
Using your ZM logic and intro quest rep, they could just make the rep gained once per account and not character.
Then how do you handle repeatable stuff? Like ZM rares? Same thing? Now we have to remember which rares we’ve killed on which characters each day, because we won’t get rep otherwise?
It’s way easier on everyone to just base rewards off rep achievements, which are already account-wide.
I just thought it’d be an idea to counter your statement, but I don’t know anything about ZM and haven’t played SL. I just know how it is to grind out reps in the past. I did find those revered bonuses in MoP effective for me.
I’m assuming that based on your response that an elite will give rep once per day per character. I agree, it would be a pain to remember. Maybe Blizz could develop something like having your map show if a rare was killed that day already on your account. Or something similar to how BFA elites lost their border and map star after you killed them the first time. They could do something like that that resets daily.
Is it really that hard to make reps account wide once you hit exalted on one toon? Also paragon reps can be per character.
The thing is, there’s absolutely no need to make reps account-wide, nor is there need to make it account-wide except for paragon.
They can make a very simple fix using things that are already in the game. Go with that.
People need to be more practical, in general, with their requests.
Make it an option then, if you really dont want it account wide then let people turn it off if they want
How about this.
Make rep account wide once the content is no longer current.
Like say, if Blizzard flipped the switch tomorrow, all rep you ever gained in the history of WoW is now account wide with the exception of Shadowlands reps, then when DF hits, all Shadowlands reps will be account wide but the DF stuff won’t be until the following expansion.
That way when you make a new toon or play a different one, it doesn’t feel like you’re losing anything but it doesn’t impact current content?
Why?
If they base everything off achievements, your rep on your alt doesn’t even matter.
it’s just a psychological thing, when I flip open the rep page on this toon, it’s kind of sad because when I open it on my DK, Warrior, Pally etc, a ton of the bars are full from years of playing.
Wonder how they’ll be handling 10.0 renown that isn’t rep but it kinda is and isn’t.
If I had my way, I’d add an heirloom/toy (like the maps that give your alts all the flight paths) to every rep vendor in the game at exalted.
Once added to the collection, this toy would exalt the user for that specific rep and set any opposing rep to hated (e.g. Aldor/Scryer). In this way we would not have to regrind content for rep that we already grinded multiple times just so our alts can benefit from work we already did if we don’t want to, but have the agency to decide if we want to by choosing whether or not to use the heirloom/toy.
This system also avoids any issues of opposing reps, and of gaining rep too fast due to account wide rep. Rep gear is also largely irrelevant by the time our mains get to exalted. I see no harm in our alts actually finding that gear useful due to the above system giving them a fastpass to exalted.
You should get profession recipes from doing profession-related things. My crafting character shouldn’t have to run dungeons to get rep and recipes.
And I’d be 100% fine with removing gear from rep vendors, it’s almost never useful anyway.
But cosmetics, toys, etc.? Make them BOA.
