It’s time this system was updated. Give 1 reason to report someone for what they’ve said/posted and that would be a threat to either self or others.
Has to be a threat of death or bodily harm. No other reason. Just that.
Reason is that if people don’t like what someone says, the best thing they can do to change that behaviour is to ignore it.
Don’t respond.
Walk away, move on to other topics. Create one yourself.
That hurts anyone who would “troll” or pick fights more than getting suspended.
They get suspended then they know they’ve gotten to others and if that’s their intention, it worked.
They have proof by the suspension, they wait it out and come back, do it again.
The cycle starts over.
This doesn’t need to be. Especially since we all have the ability to just ignore the person if we’re offended in any way.
Also, there is the varying definitions of “inappropriate” and “trolling”.
What one person thinks of as trolling, another thinks of as joking and so on.
Inappropriate has been given as a reason simply because someone didn’t like the topic.
They could have just left the thread but chose not to.
I think streamlining the report/flag feature would be a good thing.
Would definitely cut down on the bully tactics some people use it for as it’s too easy to report/flag someone for something they didn’t intend, etc…
When that happens it makes a person not want to come to the forums anymore and some of those people are really interesting and fun to talk to.
So please Blizzard, change the options of the report/flag system.
That’s the adult thing to do, it’s a shame the adult thing to do doesn’t happen more often here. The real world is going to be a rude awakening for many people.
That doesn’t happen in this day and age. The person who was offended seems to usually lash out in outrage.
Then people would be spam reported for that, that’s simply how it would go.
In the end Blizzard just needs to start punishing people who abuse the flagging system.
That still wouldn’t stop people from abusing the report mechanic. Players would still spam report.
I honestly think that the surge in reporting/flagging is a direct result in the dislike button being taken away, i think it’s ridiculous to accuse people of “abusing” a dislike button when it’s a purely subjective matter.
Just to be clear, i mean Blizzard saying that the dislike button was being abused as part of their reasoning for removing it.
No. Instead of changing the system and gutting it, people who abuse the system need to instead be held to greater accountability and in a much more “public” way akin to how Blizzard shames Botters/Cheaters with statements on “We just banned XXXX number of players for Y!”
Blizzard needs to find a way to better track flag abuse and better punish those who abuse it. The system is fine, all of the options to report for are valid. I would argue bringing back a comment field like the old forums had would be great but we don’t need to trim the system down and gut it because people abuse it, we need to punish those abusing the system instead.
I am not sure that would stop flag abuse. The whole reason for people abusing flags IS to bury posts. Blizzard really needs to crack down on those abusing the system and make very crystal clear abuse of the system will be punished.
I think these are the main points here correct? The thing is that they already are streamlined. There are only 4 options. The ToS, while convoluted, does provide some guidance, and I think clear guidelines are the best way to proceed if there are any changes.
Give us a link that clearly define what the rules are rather than searching through years of vague posts to pinpoint what they might be.
While the system might be flawed, it is largely automated, and many flagged posts do get restored after moderator review. Far from perfect, but it’s what we got, and i don’t see funds poured into a revamp to change it.
I disagree because of all the varying personal definitions of “inappropriate” and “trolling”.
I’ve always thought that unless the person was being mean and name calling as in slurs, that they were trolling if they made a thread that was fun but kind of tricky in the sense that what they posted could be taken in several different ways.
When that happens, and it’s rare, it starts up some good, fun conversation and makes you think of other possible meanings, etc…
But as it is now, “trolling” means something bad and we’re punished for it.
I don’t think that’s a good way to go about things, especially since everyone seems to have their own version of what those words mean.
The reporting system has to be a lot to work with and it seems to be unnecessary workload as people can simply leave a conversation if they don’t like it.
That’s why I think to simplify the report/flag system would be best.
Indeed, that does exist, and it is a basic guideline.
This is the part I take issue with though. The devil’s in the details, and unless you’ve been around the forums for years, you don’t know what the details are.
They have literally done that twice in the past 6 months. Once with people editing model textures and once with cheaters. The former they reversed because of community outcry.
People were using third party software to edit the models client side for various reasons. The people I personally knew about edited the textures on armors to be more scantily clad.
lol ok… nice backflip then, because they previously announced YEARS AGO, that they were no longer going to give numbers, or even announce ban waves, because it wasn’t beneficial to the playerbase.
Please. I’m tired of getting silenced for saying something that people disagree with. I’ve been so much more tame on the forums than I used to be and I still get silenced from time to time for saying something like “gnomes are derps”…
A lot of people on GD flagging posts could stand to listen to the words of Tyler the Creator: “Hahahahahahahaha How The — Is Cyber Bullying Real Hahahaha — Just Walk Away From The Screen Like — Close Your Eyes Haha”
