Reporting Ongoing Harassment

Telling someone to harm themselves is extremely messed up and it’s incredibly abhorrent how readily it comes to minds that ought to know better.

The rest of this thread is such obvious bad faith pushing-glasses-up-nosework that it’s boring.

The weird thing about that too is a quick search of the screenshot being talked about, is it’s just some random person in a random guild I’ve never seen or heard of before.

that kinda generalization doesnt do anyone any favors

when its popular to hate someone, ppl can get vile

I agree about this bad faith business. Someone claiming to know about what does or doesn’t count as ToS violations should at least be aware of the blatant ToS violation names in their guild. Not talking about rp name rules either.

My suggestion here is for everyone to stop engaging the troll. Acknowledge that this guild is a troll guild and everyone make sure your RP guilds and friends are aware of their activity so they can be avoided and reported.

If they show up and start dropping toys in the middle of ongoing RP events in the future, screenshot with details and report. Don’t engage at the event in any way or after the fact.

So now that the thread has been quiet I thought we might be able to return to the original purpose of the thread; questions about reporting in WoW.

  1. So we know that we are not supposed to interact with the offender when making a report. Does that include the forums? I am better sure that is the case but I want to be sure.
  2. If others interact, will that cause Blizz to throw out any reports others make?
  3. When someone makes a thread on the forums and the community flags it which results in that thread being removed, isn’t the poster supposed to be given a temp ban from posting? Are the temp bans for individual characters only rather than account wide?
  4. On the forums, why would someone not have the option to report a thread or post? Is that tied to trust level?

I would appreciate any insight anyone may have on these questions.

He’s ‘sealioning’. No matter how simply you try to explain the issue, he will insist you don’t understand “his side” or try to skew it to make himself the victim.

His entire guild is known for trying to ruin peoples’ personal and public events. If he was truly repentent about any of it he’d quit trying to force his way into places that he knows he’s not welcome at, then trying to justify trolling done under having felt unwelcome.

Reporting threads and posts was recently tied to trust level, likely due to how one person could mass flag posts on 0 trust alts.

That makes sense. Thank you!

If someone can mass report posts on each alt and that each alt has their own trust level, a temp ban may only affect a single character and not a player’s account.

I have also found that I cannot make posts if I am the only one to have recently replied. I have to hope to an alt to make a post or wait until someone else responds.

Is that true?

I don’t know if flagging actually does much of anything, but they only seem to look at posts that have been mass flagged in my experience.

And yeah, the “you cannot double post” thing makes sense.

I would be careful to not mass flag EVERYTHING.
Flag ones that would make sense to flag.
Otherwise the moderators will get very annoyed and might not respond the way you want to.

Aside from it being tied to trust level, I recall there also being a maximum number of flags that one can apply per day (which may also be higher or lower depending on trust level). I think I got an error message telling me that the time I hit it, but that was some time ago and it may have changed.

…They wouldn’t happen to be PVP flagged when they come out would they?

Only bad PVPers grief RP events.
The real PVP Chads do no such thing.

Can you imagine actively spending your time on earth trolling someone’s RP event?

You had a decision to make about what to do with your life at that moment in time and that was the decision you came up with.

Anyway.

I can say in my experience with at least the beta forums, it sometimes takes a while for every flagged post to get seen and actioned.

That said, I highly suggest people flag posts that really ought to be flagged so it’s raising a little more awareness. I’m sure most mods on these forums are busy dealing with w/e sewage is circulating on the gen chat forum more often than not.

This might be true.

But so is this.

There’s this peculiar phenomenon where otherwise progressive people will eagerly identify unpopular people as an Enemy. And Enemies can be treated however anyone pleases. When people leap directly to saying horrifying stuff because it’s an Enemy, it’s no longer about the unpopular person, it’s about someone seeing an opportunity to do something they shouldn’t with wild abandon.

This tends to be a problem in a lot of otherwise decent communities, lately, so I thought it was worth commenting.

I hate to even bring this thread back to the top of the page since all of this other muck has transpired - but I did finally poke one of our SFAs and wanted to get back to you.

I had to ignore the earlier muck on both the classic and retail characters in the thread. Seemed to be tied to characters. Since the classic had it’s thread taken down and the muck switched to only posting on their retail, I assume the forum banned is not account wide and is per character. Or getting their troll post taken down did not get them a forum vacation.

If an account is sanctioned, it is for all characters on that account. If I went ham and get suspended on the forums, I cannot use any of my characters on that account. Same goes for in-game. But if I have multiple accounts, I can use one of the others until the suspension is over on my one.

One thing I do hate is that if an account is suspended from the forums, it doesn’t carry over into the game and vice versa - that being suspended in-game does not affect forum privileges. The only time it would affect both forum and in-game is if an account is completely banned and shut down entirely.
