I wish I could punch him every time he whines.

What Iā€™m getting from that is that the main reason people hate Anduin is he gets to have the level of sensitivity thatā€™s generally reserved for women and elves and it makes them uncomfortable

Nah, not my problem in that regard. I just dislike the whole complainer shtick, donā€™t care whos complaining, donā€™t care about their problems, unless I can fix them via fisting. Then Iā€™m interested, always interested in a good fisting.

It generally makes people uncomfortable for a man to express any amount of vulnerability. We reward men who display aggression even when we admonish them for it, and disincentivize men to be vulnerable at all. Thatā€™s what toxic masculinity is, the performative nature of it that becomes toxic to the man.

Anduin has had a very storied past of action and great heroism, but because he feels a little sad and vulnerable, all of that goes out the window in that exact moment. Everything else about his character ceases to be relevant the moment thereā€™s a notion of vulnerability. This is a self perpetuating cycle.

Yes, the world WRIT LARGE, does have a problem with it. And when men do bring up their problems theyā€™re told to shut up and all that or man up and all that, and yes that is a serious and real problem. Like I said, thats not my problem with it. I donā€™t care if its anduin complaining, i donā€™t care if its thrall whining, i donā€™t care of its jaina lamenting, if I cant punch the problem, then I donā€™t care about the problem, because Iā€™m not a therapist. Iā€™m a monk. who specializes in punching things. Now, anduin wants me to go punch his demons, Iā€™m all in, but I donā€™t think beating the man half to death is gonna fix him.

Even in a game that is 90% combat, things will not be fixed just by fighting, and that is what Blizzard is trying to say. I think it is very myopic to think of a video game story only in this way, it shuts off all other dynamics.

Its a bloody video game. Things wonā€™t be fixed by anything unless the developers want the storyline to go that way. Anduin will get fixed, not by player agency (As he hasnā€™t so far in the MSQ instead being given therapy that we just tag along for from the other NPCā€™s), but by however blizzard writes the story for him to get over his problems.

World of warcrafts ā€œViolence problemā€ wont be fixed, ever, because that would defeat the point of World of __WAR__Craft, there will always be some new problem to punch, and that is what I play for. To punch the next problem, not listen to any NPCā€™s melodrama and be their unpaid therapist who, at the end of the day, will have probably limited to no agency in their recovery anyways.

no matter allies we make, or how many times we save the world, theirs always some new world threat that has to be dealt with, players who want to engage in more toned down stories about how the characters are growing and becoming better, all the more power too them, Iā€™m not here for that. Iā€™m here to punch (Insert xpac world threat boss here) in the face and save the world for the umpteenth time. Then go back and farm arthas because its funny.

I donā€™t care what gender he is.
I donā€™t care what race he is.

I canā€™t stand whining. From anyone. Both of you need to stop trying to turn this isnā€™t something itā€™s not.

Iā€™m more upset about the five year self-pity vacation. Heā€™s a king, he shouldnā€™t have such luxuries.
