Please, people, when you want to reply to somebody, actually quote them. Don’t just hit reply and post with zero context. This is happening a lot.
Generally, you can see what they’re replying to from the top right corner of their post and expand it to show the context.
But yeah, not fun to see people just hitting the general reply button on the side when they mean to respond to a very specific person.
What is so bad about hitting their reply notice?
Yeah, I’ve been trying to make a habit of quoting except when my post will be right under the post I’m responding to.
It’s likely mobile users, those that don’t know how to highlight text to quote. And with the quote post button no longer being there either, but at least that’ll cut down on the quote the whole post crowd, even if the quoted section itself is a whole page of text.
The big thing I’d clickin reply also shows that response in the original post, so if you reply to post 50 it will link that response in that post, so that context is there if you look for it.
I shall always press the reply button! Muhahaha!
I feel the button on the top right of their post is enough for me to just click and see what post they are replying to. I feel like this is a better method then a bunch of chained together broken quotes of full posts that kept happening on the old forum. I only quote to address a specific part of someone’s post if I feel it’s necessary.
I’ve been hitting ‘reply’ to some posts and it does not always show up, could be my curser. But it’s easy to hit the arrow button if you want to see what is being replied to instead of cluttering up posts with quotes. I do the quote sometimes when it feels more necessary.
Except that when there are multiple parts to reply to, simply hitting reply and running everything together is nonsensical and points get lost.
Short quote, response. Short quote, response. It’s not difficult to follow. The quotes are very easily identified from the text underneath of it.
Ya, I will never quote unless its warranted for the conversation.
Most of the time it is just a fun question from OP/other forum user that I am replying to.
Right, which is where I said I use quotes as needed. Not every reply needs that though, so I think it seems reasonable to just use the reply option sometimes.
For instance, I don’t feel the need to grab any specific part of your post since it just captures a single thought/point. So someone can just click the icon revealing the post I’m replying to, and understand why I’m saying what I’m saying.
Oh yeah, that I completely understand and do as well.
