Replacing the Lariat and Onyx Amulet!?

Hi Evoker Fam!

I’m really at a loss for what to do with the Lariat. I have gotten so many necks that I thought would be decent since everyone is saying the Lariat should be replaced now. However when I sim them, even at the MAX ilvl they can hit (437) - it doesn’t out sim the Lariat.

Are the sims wrong? If so, how do I know when I should replace it?

I’m having the same issue with the Onyx Amulet. I keep getting rings that appear to be good, but nothing out sims the amulet, even though everyone says it’s trash for devokers.

Could be all the Gems you have currently (which is odd you are Gemming Haste over Mastery) From what I have read about the Lariat is it will gain more value at the end of the season when you have Gems in every slot. You are in last seasons gear with lots of Gem slots.

Onyx…Not sure Ill run a sim this evening to see if I get the same results. But I when I tested it in Raid once(fully upgraded), I did notice my dps was lower.

Omg you’d cry if you saw how many combos I tried parsing in terms of gems for this thing lolol
When I parsed the lariat originally people were telling me I needed more haste for extensions, and the gems I have now parsed noticeably better than straight mastery gems at the time. I just haven’t changed it since then, largely because I spent what felt like a millenia parsing 234928340239 different gem combos for the Lariat and didn’t want to do that again

I’ll try parsing just straight mastery though now, to see if it’s worth it to switch :3

I’ll try just removing the Onyx Amulet and testing my damage on some dummies to see if I notice a damage increase, but the parsing always shows it’s a big damage loss to remove it so I felt stuck with it :sob:

Haste/mastery earth gems simmed better for me too. The difference is kind of whatever, so there’s really no wrong answer with gems. Except no gem.

annulet is bad for us & lariat is only good with full sockets on your gear.

you’ll want adaptive wrists & shadowflame or the boots (-10% movespeed one) + toxic patch.

Remember lariat takes an embellishment of which you can only have 2. So the question isn’t “does lariat sim higher than another neck”, the question is “does it sim so much higher that it’s worth giving up an embellishment somewhere else for it”.

I believe you get more by replacing the lariat and getting the embellished bracers and boots.

Did they change it? I thought Lariats “embellishment” was Free, and didnt count against the rule of 2. I remember Last season rocking Lariat/Pocket/PotionAbsorb.

Pocket is the one that doesnt count.

RIP…I knew it was one of them…should have read this before I crafted my cloak.
Oh well Maybe the Vault will be good to me for once this week.

Hey! I’ve been kind of MIA from checking the forms so I’m sorry for the delay, but I wanted to thank you for this!

When you pointed out the embellishment thing, it all started to make more sense, and I was finally able to get rid of the Lariat!

Still stuck with this stupid Onyx Amulet though. lol

You’ve got some really, REALLY out of whack stats if the annulet is simming higher for you, unless you’re playing heal spec.

I finally found something that out-simmed it! I know I don’t have BiS for most slots but I’m just terribly unlucky. I lose raid rolls on my BiS to ppl who don’t even need the items lolol

I just work with what I can get! Super happy to get rid of the Amulet tho, like ughhh I was so tired of that thing and the lariat lol

I was debating between upgrading my lariat and flame touched wrists to 437 or swaping to the choker of thunder (the one that drops in the m+ dungeon with the wind bosses i forgot its name) wich gives around 1k mastery when upgraded and the new crafted wrists from caverns.

The result was 1.1% upgrade for the choker/dracothyst wrist over the upgraded Lariat/flame-touched wrists wich was 0.9% upgrade
