Replace Veteran gear with Champion gear or replace Champion gear with Hero gear

I’m a relatively casual player. I do the occasional Mythic+ dungeons and have begun to collect Hero gear. My existing gear is mostly Champion with a Veteran piece here and there.

I’m staring at my Select Reward screen that is offering me the choice of two different Hero pieces and one Champion piece. Both Hero pieces would be replacing two existing Champion pieces and the offered Champion piece would be replacing an existing Veteran piece.

Is there a greater overall benefit replacing the Veteran piece with a Champion piece or replacing an existing Champion piece with a Hero piece.

I’ve done some searching on the internet, but what I am finding isn’t really helping, at least not with my specific question.

I would think at the end of the day, you’d want all Hero (or Myth) pieces ultimately, but as a casual player, I’d just like to get the best bang for my buck.

Generally speaking, you want to go with the highest ilvl piece due to primary stat increase, especially if one of those pieces was a large one, like a chest or weapon. That said, secondary stats can be weighted more heavily for certain specs, so if you want to get into min-maxing, you should sim your gear.

There’s an addon to download for the Top Gear sim, but it’s lightweight and very fast.

It depends on the item, slot, etc for most players if you are really trying to get the best out of your vault. However, I think taking a higher Ilvl track piece (hero in this case) is almost always the smarter move.

You could take that champion piece and then get it replaced by a hero piece in next weeks vault. Higher Ilvl is almost always the best choice unless you need a very specific item.
