I have been doing some research and I would like some input from the tech guys. Three years ago, the community here helped me put together a list of parts needed to build my first computer. Now some time has passed since then and I’m worried it may be time to either replace or upgrade those some parts because of age.
Do any of these parts need to be replaced soon because of age? I mainly play wow and I really haven’t experienced any problems yet, but I know something may detonate around the corner! Also, would it be better to upgrade anything?
Ty, thank you, and Thank you
If you’re taking excellent care of your hardware, you may be fine. Very few things depreciate over time.
The most I would consider upgrading would be from a single HDD to adding in a 500gb SSD of some kind–either an M.2 or a regular eSATA drive would be better. If it’s set up as your boot drive (meaning you would have to completely reinstall your operating system) you’ll experience much father boot and load times across the board.
You could get away with upgrading your GPU, but sadly you’d be better off keeping your GPU right now as we’re in a bit of a supply crisis for GPU’s.
You could also maybe upgrade to 16GB of RAM to future-proof yourself but the build is still solid otherwise.
No. Not now. 2022 will be the year of Game changing CPUs. Both Alder Lake (intel) and Zen4 (AMD). Wait for those. Both will require new motherboards due to being a new socket. Silly to upgrade now.
2022 mate. Upgrade then when one of the new CPUs come out. If you upgrade anything now just do a GPU. ONLY if you can find one at MSRP. My advice is to wait to upgrade anything.
In 2022 the upgrade will be a much better investment. Also wait till both CPUs are out. Zen4 and Alder Lake. See which is better and go with that. Also getting a new GPU should be easier then
SSD’s are the cat’s pyjamas. Video cards are currently virtually impossible to get without giving a scalper your first born but your 1060 should be more than adequate.
