Replace 'Class' with 'Covenant'

It’s a bad idea to lock people into their class. Firstly, some are obviously more powerful than others, which is going to feel terrible because some people like the aesthetics of some classes more than others. How would it make you feel if you wanted to play one class because of how it looks but then you got funnelled into playing another just because your guild requires you to be that class?

If you ask me, they should make it so you can change your class much easier than you can now, or just completely disconnect the class’ abilities from the class itself, so people can mix and match as they please.

Because honestly, having classes the way they are now is going to ruin the expansion. Nobody is going to want to be stuck with one class.

(EDIT: Because so many people are misunderstanding, yes I know it sounds stupid. That’s the point. Read the title of the thread and you’ll understand what I’m trying to get at.)

I like the fact that they want to make choices matter

I mean there are pro’s and cons with this, and blizzard has stated this is a route they dont wish to take and it has a lot of complications for them on their side as well. I just have every class maxed on Horde so if i ever feel like playing that class well theres a maxed toon for that.

Yep i love it to be honest feels role playing man!

If I had the choice between 1 ability or 4 I’d pick 4 every time

I don’t like the fact that only pro for this is “you get a meaningful choice” and personally I think it’s a stupid reason to restrict player freedom

“Meaningful choice” is a big pro, though. Would you rather it mean nothing and just be more filler fluff on top of what we have already?

Fluff is boring well said!

I see it a couple of ways.

First, when Shadowlands launches they don’t want players jumping back and forth so they will limit your ability to do it. They always make things harder when an xpac first launches and then slowly remove those restrictions over time/feedback.

Second, I hear you can only transmog a covenants items if you belong to it and I’m cool with that for now. I hope it gets removed at a later time but understand the need to make them appear more unique by locking certain things such as transmogs.

I don’t think they should make you locked into the covenant you choose but I do think they should have some type of penalty like paying gold and maybe a cooldown to how many times you can change them. Maybe you can only change covenants once a week on reset so as to not get abused because this ability is better for this raid and this other one is better for this other raid kind of thing.

To each their own.

Yes, yes I would

No, just no to this idea. Not only is it a MASSIVE technical and balance nightmare waiting to happen. You completely just shred class identity.

I’m going to keep saying this until is flakking sticks.

Unless you’re competing for world firsts or M+ higher than 30+. Stop obsessing over meta. Every class, every spec, and every race combination can clear content, including mythic raiding, provided you put in the effort to get what gear you need.

Stop trying to reinvent the wheel here.

My problem is not exactly with min maxing locked into a certain covenant… Cutting edge players already reroll to a class suited to their needs despite liking or not the whole aesthetic… Compromising to a certain Covenant doesn’t seem like a terrible thing, esp. when you can change them for a cost.

I’m more bothered by yet again we having borrowed powers ingrained into the core gameplay of the classes.

someone didn’t get the point

Perhaps, even with covenants, my point remains the exact same.

Also we haven’t even seen what soulbinds do yet. Your drawing judgement from a system that isn’t even remotely fully fleshed out yet. We don’t even have numbers to these abilities yet.

#mychoicematters
#meaningfulchoices

If im missing another # feel free to add.

Now enough with the sarcasm, i agree OP, covenants will be a nightmare to balance, most likely blizz wont be able to, this is going to suck but im already over it, if they plug the all covenants swappable button good, if they dont, then im just lvling 3 more dhs.

yea. when it’s talking about classes, it’s stupid. it’s also equally stupid when you replace ‘class’ with ‘covenant.’ thats the point i was trying to make

Ah, then I did misunderstood your point then. I will admit that.

Also I do wish people would realize that one combat ability is not going to make or break your specs viability in clearing content. sighs

Depends what content you do, cause this isnt my case for example and it will affect me if covenants end up being too strong

If you’re trying to compare covenants to corruption effects. You’re trying to compare apples to semi-trucks. Take off those lens.

No, im saying that when you play in a CE lvl, the impact of these things matter, who talked about corruption? is it goalpost moving time?

No, and CE lvl?

Again coming back to. Are you in Method? Limit? Or any other guild competing for world first? Are you doing M+ keys in excess of +30 or higher? No? Then your covenant choice will be irrelevant at the end of the day.
