Reoccurring DC - WINMTR- WOW51900319

Been experiencing reoccurring disconnects since I resubbed. It happens every couple of hours out of the blue. I do not lose internet, no do I notice a significant drop in latency or anything of that sort. If I am on Discord, I do not drop voice chat.

I completed all of the recommended fixes for the WOW51900319 error. Flushed/renewed DNS; re-installed the game (on an SSD), re-installed my mods like DBM and Details; reduced settings/turned off high speed network priority in WoW Network settings; and ran an WINMTR.

Here are the results. I ran the test for a couple of hours - and I am posting this because I got up and came back to my computer and I had disconnected from the game. Please help me decipher & correct this reoccurring issue!

I have had this issue for quite some time now (51900319 DC every couple hours) but I never bothered with winmtr since I am on a wireless network. However, I do notice that I never lose sound from youtube videos if one is running, I never dc from overwatch when I play that, or seem to have any other problems except for wow. Maybe it is my wireless network, maybe it is ISP problems especially with the added load from quarantine, but I admit to getting very suspicious that it only seems to affect wow. One other thing I noticed is that when I get these disconnects, upon re-entering the game the help tooltip highlighting guilds and communities always pops up in the lower right.

And finally, if it is my connection to Blizzard servers and not Blizzard WoW servers themselves, why does Overwatch seem to have a much higher tolerance that manages to never disconnect me?

I play HoTS and do not get disconnected from games either. I do notice that I do disconnect from their in-game “party voice chat” every couple of hours if I am playing with a party, but I have never disconnected from a game.

I am connected via ethernet straight to router/modem. It is a very peculiar case.

Hey Boethia,

In this case, a shorter test may be more useful. While it’s hard to pinpoint exactly when the disconnect happens, I would recommend stopping and restarting the MTR test every 10 minutes or so while playing and when the disconnect happens during that time, copy and paste that specific MTR test so we have a short time frame where the disconnect happens. I’d also recommend testing the default version of WoW without any addons temporarily just to see if there’s any difference.

I have been suddenly experiencing a freeze in the game and having to Alt F4 to shut the game down to relog in.

I caught it again with 10 minutes of running WINMTR.

same here constant disconnects within 5 mins of logging in

Boethia,

This test actually looks fine. If it’s not an issue with the network path, my next best bet would be something in your router cache, which you can clear by resetting your network hardware. Failing that, resetting your UI would be the next step, as addons and corrupted game cache data can also cause periodic disconnects.

If neither works, can you keep an eye on the rate of disconnections? See if it’s happening exactly every x number of hours, or always at the same minute on the hour it happens. If that’s the case, and you have an hourly DHCP lease renewal on your router, it may be your DHCP lease renewal time causing the hiccup.

I discovered the issue - and this is for anybody who has the same router I do.

I swapped out my router for my older one, and I have not disconnected at all. My router is a Netgear R7000P - and any quick Google search will find you plenty of threads discussing disconnection issues with this router. I don’t think anyone has pinpointed the exact issue or reason why this model of constantly disconnects players from WoW (but no internet is lost) but the issue has repeated itself through multiple players/owners. It has also solved my party chat disconnection issues in HoTS.

Long and short - do not buy the Netgear R7000P if you plan on playing any Blizzard games. They do not get along for whatever reason.

Hey, Boethia! I am curious as we are aware of Netgear router issues with some of our other games. Have you tried checking QoS/QoL? If not, could you see if enabling/disabling it helps with the disconnections?

For most netgear routers, what I have personally seen is that enabling QoS/QoL seems to help with the disconnection issues.

Having similar issues: Ran a few tests too.

You have latency spikes and dropped packets as soon as your data leaves your computer.

I am the only individual who uses the internet, and besides smart-home stuff, it is usually only my computer taking up bandwith - not sure why enabling QoS would be needed. I can try.

I just changed to this same router about 3 days ago and have received the same issue. I kept checking the forums to see if it was just a problem in general with people having disconnects but once i saw this thread and the mention of the router, i knew we had a similar issue. Every couple of hours i disconnect out of the blue. Same thing, dont actually drop internet. Speeds are fine. Discord is fine. Same exact issue as Boethia.

Appreciate the details, Boethia! Oddly enough, QoS is what seem to help the issues with netgear routers in the past. We have tracking on this issue for StarCraft II, seen similar reports with PvE in Overwatch and Heroes on the Netgear forums. I’ll keep a look out for other reports with the same model router and other Netgear models to see if we’re seeing the same problem as we have with our other games.

@Sheepenstein, thanks for the report! I’m curious as well if toggling QoS seems to help with the issue. Could you see if this helps with the disconnection issues?

I have the same issue with a brand new r7000p.
