Sometimes I can’t get this thing to drop any renown on my alts. They’re just stuck. No callings giving it, no bgs, no dungeons, etc. They just can’t get caught up.

Yeah my hunter is stuck at 19 right now. Can’t get the last renown from anywhere either.
it would be nice if they just gave out the list and circumstances that give renown

It’s not a great system and they never gave specific details on it.
The reason they don’t give specifics is because it’s essentially a decision tree based on how far behind you are in renown, with more options giving your renown the further behind you are.
However, if you are, say, 18 after doing the 2 renown quests in a week that starts at 18… the game seems to get confused as to whether or not you are behind.

Yeah, they have a list of activities that CAN give you levels, but the lack of transparency is frustrating.
Most RPGs have a measure of progression, not sure why the felt like this needed to be rng

It should just tell you what you should do next in the renown quest box, and if you do what it says you should get a renown.
I’ve been dealing with the same problem. At renown 19 and one away from the next campaign story, which will give me 21 and access to 2nd potency conduit. Very frustrating that I’m blocked - I did multiple callings, M+, and 9/10 heroic Nath with nothing
Did you … kill the World Boss? Get your souls from the maw? 1,000 Anima weekly? I didn’t play for two weeks and went from 15 to 21 last night. 
Everyone should be able to hit 21!

This would be next question as well. The campaign quests are also +1 renown, if you didn’t do the one that unlocked on your way to catching up… you can never get caught up.
Any content gives renown, I got one from killing the WB. A mate for one in a heroic dungeon…another in lfr

I’m at 19 and still have my 1000 anima weekly to complete which will reward me renown 20.

No, the cap is 21 this week.
A ticket won’t help because it’s how the system works (or in this case, breaks).
I’m having the same issue, I leveled via The Threads of Fate and hit 60 with my DK very early Monday morning. I got my souls from the maw for one reknown but didn’t get the 1000 anima. I think that might have to do with it but even then not 100% sure. I did the world boss, 5 mythic 0 dungeons, one mythic+4 and both LFR wings ALL while being Reknown 19 and having no quests to give me a reknown for 20 to get the campaign quest
